Sound cards, AV receivers, audiophile speakers: What are my options for audio...
(30 May 2009)
So, I'm going to be building a new rig by the end of this year and I'm thinking about the audio part of it. I haven't been keeping up much with PC gaming so I'm not sure what are the standards today. Basically, I've always been using the integrated audio on my mobo and paired with 2.1 PC speakers. Now, I want something better for my new rig. So my questions are:
How is sound outputted by PC games? For example, console games have DTS or Dolby Digital so what is the equivalent on the PC, if any?

Which sound card?
(24 Jun 2009)
Hi everyone,
OK I'm looking to complete my setup with a sound card, but which one.
This is the one I'm looking at atm
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showpr...tid=11&subcat=
1) Is it worth getting?
2) Is it better to get the Xonar D2X?
3) Will I get a noticeable difference from the onboard sound?
These are the things I need to think about before spending £100 or so on good sound.

sound card pulse generator with 2500 Hz carrier frequency
(08 Jul 2009)
I need a bipolar pulse generator with 2500 Hz carrier frequency that generates 2-10 msec pulses with 2-10 Hz repitition rate and amplitude of 5-20 V. Im thinking about using sound card and amplify the signal with 10W or so audio power amp. Im looking for free or cheap software that can run the sound card. Any suggestions are appreciated.

(03 Jun 2009)

Sound card/motherboard question
(14 Jun 2009)
I'm new to hardware, so sorry if this question may seem obvious or dumb...
I was wondering if my motherboard could handle a sound card.
My motherboard is an Intel G33, looks similar to this (but isn't exactly this board):

Need a decent Headset/Sound Card
(16 May 2009)
I hope this is the right section. Lol
I'm quite clueless when it comes to speakers/headsets/sound cards. I tried researching by myself, but it confused me. Opinions vary TOO much when it comes to sound. So I figured I'll get some help from people with experience.
I am looking for a decent headset. I am willing to settle for speakers if it comes down to it, but I'd prefer a headset.
I will use 'em for everything. Gaming, Movies and Music, priority in that order. But it seems hard to find a budget...

Sound Card for Guitar Recording
(18 Jun 2009)
Hello,
currently I have an USB sound card Sound Blaster MP3+ (I think that it was later renamed to SB Connect!). It is about 5 years old and I've been thinking about replacing it with something better. I use it mainly for music listening and recording guitar via the line-in (using cubase and amplitube and other VST effects via Asio4All). While there are no problems with that, it can be somewhat noisy and it doesn't surprise me. Also, when comparing CD Audio from PC and from an old CD player, the...

Should i change my sound card?
(29 May 2009)
I have now a Creative X-fi Platinum (this one: http://images.creative.com/iss/image...num_pdt_lo.jpg )
I get the annoying crackle when i record & broadcast myself (with Sam broadcaster)
I looked everything, settings, changed the recording to 2channel 16bit 44,1 kHz. But I still get the annoying crackle. Even looked in SAM if I could change something, but nothing. Tried in all three modes (gamer, entertainment, audio creation)
i'm thinking about one of Asus Xonar series
one of these:
Xonar D2/PM...
