Trading Mosaic Big Boxes
(01 Jun 2009)
I'm just spitballin' here, but the recent "ones that got away" thread got me thinking about the possibility of trading Mosaics. There's no doubt that those of us who own these sets have ones that are of desert island quality and others that wouldn't make that trip. The question is, are some of those you'd leave behind ones you might consider trading? For example, Bixieland mentioned that he wished he hadn't missed out on the Bunny Berigan. I have that set, but it's not one that I return to often...

Tile drama - updated pics - need URGENT opinions on rows!!;)
(24 Apr 2009)
After the door saga - I didn't think I would encounter another colour mistake so quickly WRONG!! I don't like my feature tiles.
Unlike the doors, they will not grow on me, they can't be covered up with plants/decking/fencing etc, they are supposed to be the stand out in my bathroom and I HATE them
They are a natural stone so they have come up an orange colour rather than the tan colour I was hoping for, I am also sure they are the wrong one. I think the color girl wrote down the wrong code and s...

Splashback question
(21 Apr 2009)
It seems like so many people have a splashback dilemma so I thought I'd ask all you people out there your opinions on what we should do.
We are going for a fairly traditional look of white cupboards, white tile splashback and black casaer stone benchtops. We are also having vinyl wrap doors in the style below.

We really like tiles in a brickwork pattern rather than on top of one another, but we have also found a really nice mosaic tile to have as a line through the tiles.
Is it too much...

Graco Moasic
(18 May 2009)
I'm thinking about getting the Graco Mosaic stroller. It can hold the SS1 according to Graco's site. And when I don't have BabyS, I can use it for Sofi as an umbrella stroller. Or I can also use it for BabyS w/o the SS1. It reclines, unlike my current umbrella stroller (BabyS can't sit up yet). And also has a 5point harness, unlike my current umbrella stroller.
Does anyone have this? Do you like it/hate it? It looks like it's only available in brown/pink. Are there any other colors somewhere? I...

marble mosaic problem...help !
(02 Jul 2009)
High-End custom home where we just installed 7/16" x 7/16" mosaic tile floor in a guest suite. Sunlight comes into the room from an angle which really emphasizes even the slightest amount of lippage and the butt seams between the sheeted 12x12 mosaic tiles. Were left scratching our heads as to what to do to resolve the problem without ripping it all out and trying again. In order to get proper thinset coverage we trowel the floor and backbutter the tile and slowly & carefully set the tile with o...

Need advice on my tiling mistake.
(11 Apr 2009)
My field tiles have 1/8" grout spacing. My 6" tall mosaic travertine mesh has about 1/16" spacing. In order to help avoiding lippage for the border tiles, I put the upper tiles up first.
My plan was to allow for 1/8" grout spacing on the top and bottom of the border tiles. I used 1/8" spacers on the top of the batten by mistake .
Would 3/16" spacing on top and bottom look bad? Now that I think about it, I probably should have planned for 1/16" spacing on top and bottom.
Any ideas to make this wo...

Wood mosaic handles tutorial - (High graphic volume)
(23 Apr 2009)
Inesse, my better half, decided it's time for a tutorial - so we took one of the custom made Chef's knives we are currently working on and did a case study of wood mosaic work. We realize that there are other ways of doing it, but this is how we make them. It has proven it's self as a sturdy design that is able to withstand the rigors of heavy duty use, and in our humble opinion, very pleasant to the hand as well as the eye.
My part was the blade, HT it, and hand polish it - then translated the...

Vapor-XL Persian Knife
(29 May 2009)
Hey guys! I'm Taka...Eric Draven's apprentice.
I've been lurking around here for a while now, and I figured for my first post, I'd show off one of the knives I just finished.
This one is called the Vapor-XL...a four fingered version of my original Vapor (which was a 3 fingered ring knife).
It's made of 1095 steel, double zero ground, curly maple handle scales, mosaic pins, stippled "sirror" finish (cross between mirror and satin finish), and mad sharp.
This is the first one I've made with this k...

Glass Box Condo Typology
(02 Jul 2009)
I'm trying to remember the watershed project...was it perhaps 18 Yorkville. But since then we see more and more glass boxes rising. And granted, not all glass boxes are the same...But certainly we are venturing into an era of sameness.
And what about the long term maintenance cost issues. We will have to wait for a few cycles of the weather to come and go before we gauge that issue.
Will the glass boxes become this millennium's slab building from the 50s and 60s? Do you think they will all of a...
