Playing2Win
(23 Jun 2009)
I ran across the old play2win article while drinking my morning coffee ... I hadn't read it in a few years and it was a nice reminder ... sometimes it's all too easy to fall in the QQing trap.
Long-time PvPers know what I am talking about .. but there's probably some newer/pve-focus foks that don't .. so I thought I'd post the link here for posterity's sake. This should be required reading efore you are ever allowed to install a PvP game: http://www.sirlin.net/articles/playi...in-part-1.html

You are playing against the computer. Fun?
(25 May 2009)
Since I think that currently cc is becoming "mainly" a chess-engine struggle with less and less human creativity, I'm searching for a more playable approach and therefore I consider a good idea your "Relocation variants". Actually I would prefer the simple approach for the creation of "NO-engine tournaments", anyway the important thing is to decrease engine usage, in my opinion. Nevertheless, the sad issue (in my personal opinion) is that this point seems absolutely not to be a major (or minor)...

Need some eyes
(07 Jun 2009)
The staff is either gone, apathetic, blind, really busy or a combination of all 4, but posts I have made have gone unnoticed (and extra help can't hurt). So I call upon you, the public, to do some revisions and basic edits of this transcript. First draft, I get better at skipping over un necessary or uncompleted sentences as it goes on, but I need people to pick through this and it make it presentable as an article. When you make a change, Quote: the paragraph, and highlight the change in red ....

Eagle Standard Vol. VII Issue IV
(26 Apr 2009)
Letter from the Editor
Yet another busy month has flown by...or has it? Unfortunately for the team, April and my obsession about weekend releases mean that the team had a mere three weeks to put together an edition, and I must congratulate them on their efforts. Another fine masterpiece of Total War talk to keep you in the know about what is going on in our fair community. All the familiar names are still around with B. Ward and Theodotos covering the competitions, Augustus Lucifer scouring the...

Kicking and Screaming into the Future
(18 May 2009)
This will be somewhat of a rant-ish post.
Basically, our current DM has 'discovered' 4E, from 3.5E. And he likes it so much, he's decided that to hell with the party, he's going to shift the campaign over to 4E whether we like it or not.
Well, okay, he's made platitudes of that not being the case, but frankly based on his personality and previous actions, I don't well believe him. Now, I don't want this to turn into an edition war- I've read the 4E books. It's a good system. It's a fun system. B...

Honorable Behavior
(07 Apr 2009)
by Rune Hansen
When at the poker room I always try to treat my opponents with respect. As a matter of fact I am often willing to give up something in order to treat my opponents with respect. It is amazing how few players are willing and able to do this. I think the main reason for this is greed. Most gamblers are greedy by nature. This is sad in many ways, but overall it is my experience that honorable behavior pays more in the long run then it might cost in the short run. Greedy people are, in...

Gaming Agendas and Me - GNS Examples as Requested(-ish)
(30 May 2009)
In another thread, the following exchange:
Quote: : Quote: : This has developed into an interesting discussion; I'm going to try to help out with the GNS nomenclature as I feel I have a passable understanding of the Forge version of it. If this doesn't help, please just ignore me! Actually, I'd prefer a few more examples, in line with the Vampire Premise he uses. Using the Paranoia setting, or Adventures in Space setting.
Your Knight/bridge explanation is what I'm looking for. ...got a bit lost...

The Attempt-To-Be-Extremely-Complete-Overview/Review of the Sims 3
(05 Jun 2009)
Bear with me here, because in terms of net weight, this is less of a post and more of a childbirth. I will add to it as I think of things, or attend suggestions.
The Sims gives you little people that you can design. It sets up a virtual, customizable life. Probably, your little person looks like you. You build your people homes, choose their furniture, buy them better TV's when the cash flows, watch them go to work, strategize their romances, educate their children, and lament their deaths. The...
