Need Some Opinions: New Heat-Sink
(30 Apr 2009)
So yea, the stock i7 heat-sink is terrible and i'm going to be getting a new one this weekend. I was thinking about getting the Coolermaster V8, but the Zalman CNPS 9900 looks really good too. But those are just two options. What Heat-sink would you suggest?

what do you think about this heat pipe design
(02 May 2009)
I'm looking at the MSI GTX 260 OC and was wondering how much more effective their cooling design is. I mean it looks sweet but do you think it cools better than the reference design?

Heated Topics - Opinions Of Christianity And "Religion Vs. Relationship"
(25 May 2009)
Okay, looking for a good debate, not a flaming argument.
I am wondering what people think of Christianity, backed with a good case, which means "I don't like Christians because my dad claimed to be one, but beat me every day and cheated on my mom"
Not "i dnt like em cuz thye dress fny!"
I see a lot of confusion about Christianity and Stereotyping, and know that programmers tend to be an intelligent lot and capable of intelligent conversation.

Underfloor heating Vs Central heating
(13 Jun 2009)
In the middle of doing a barn conversion and i need to decide whether to fit under-floor or conventional rads.It will be 2k extra for the under-floor,but you would save wall space and as the top floor would be open plan(reverse house) it would require 4 rads(lot of wall space).Conventional central heating would be cheaper.Would i recover the extra cost and would it be a selling point?I need un-attatched opinions please.
Over to you
cheers

Heating garage with regrigerator heat pump
(10 May 2009)
Hi, I'm building an extension to a small garage and considering experimenting with underfloor heating using a used fridge or freezer compressor as a heat pump. I want to do this on the cheap.
I'm not a refridgeration expert but have a general engineering back ground.
The building is small and well insulated and will only need about 1kw of heat.
I can't find any information of anyone whose done something like this on the web. Could any one advise of:
1) How do you find the output of a domestic fr...

heating before the fight techniques
(18 May 2009)
Do you know that heat converts to energy. It can either be release or conserved. When you hold somebody or something with your naked hands, heat is transfered to the object you are holding. That heat comes from your body, If you hold your chicken with your naked hand and even place the chicken near your body, you are transfering the heat from your body towards the chicken which will thereby weaken your chicken. This theory is true and what shall we do to avoid the effect of heat transfer in the...

A question about AC/Heat/Dehumidifying a garage...
(17 Jun 2009)
I have been looking for a solution to cool my garage in the summer (It was 99F today), dehumidify (86% today), and heat it during the winter (occasional freezes here in GA).
I have been pretty unsuccessful at finding an affordable solution, but came across the following unit yesterday:

AC, Heating, AND 65 pint/24hr dehumidifying in a portable unit.
I'd appreciate any of you HVAC expert's opinions on this unit. Pretty inexpensive and if it doe...

Opinions on rack heat options?
(01 Jun 2009)
I'm going to start building a rack at some point this week. I'm leaning more towards building one with solid sides to help hold in heat. I'll be using 41 quart Sterilite tubs, and due to space issues the tubs will slide in width wise (the unit will be wider than it is deep, if that makes more sense). There will be 9 sections. Heat tape will be applied to one side of the first 7 either by 11 inch belly heat or 4 inch back heat. The upper most cubby will have heat along the back wall and will be u...

Single Stage vs. Dual Stage Heat Pump?
(30 Jun 2009)
I am in the process of selecting a contractor for a replacement furnace and air conditioner in Minnesota.
One contractor stood out as trying to meet our needs and sizing things properly (including looking at all supplies and returns). They are recommending a 3-stage Carrier 95% furnace and a 3.5 ton, single stage Carrier heat pump (which matches the size of the existing AC). The heat pump recommendation surprised me, because of all of the benefits touted by the other contractors about the humidi...

Greenhouse Heat Sink
(09 Jun 2009)
Building a greenhouse, very cold climate. I'm thinking about a buried heatsink, using nested livestock troughs (2 x 3 x 10 ft.) with insulation between, below, and above.
I've read of using fist-size rocks and blowing air through them. But a friend who operates a large passive-solar greenhouse urges me to fill the inner tank with water and build a heat exchanger of piping, to blow air through. The circulation will be driven with a 12v cooling fan, a large battery, and a solar panel.
Any experien...
