1. Something to think about...   (25 Apr 2009)
Now, not tomorrow or next week, we shall discuss the forbidden topic on message boards, religion. This issue is quite touchy for many people, so I’d like to ask anyone in the topic to be open to criticism and other ideas different from your own. Is religion necessary? A lot of people choose to follow one religion or another, and as we all know the differences of religion can lead to conflict. Story after story exists of one man harming another because he fears what he does not know. All wars can...

2. Opinions on small mixers and powered speakers/monitors   (08 Jul 2009)
I have a Roland AC-60 that's served me well. I know that an acoustic amp is nice because it has built-in EQ, anit-feedback, multiple channels, etc. However, I'm in a position where I play at a church and I play banjo, dobro, guitar and harmonica. So the two channels on my amp aren't enough and I'm going to have to buy a small mixer. First, I'm considering either a Yamaha or a Mackie . Is the Mackie worth twice the price of the Yamaha? Is something else in the price range better? Also since I'm g...

3. Cerwin-Vega CVA-121 21" Active Powered Subwoofer   (12 Jun 2009)
Has anyone used the Cerwin-Vega CVA-121 21" Active Powered Subwoofer for home theater? I would like to hear opinions and about any comparisons.

4. Powered PA speakers or Passive   (20 May 2009)
Hi Gang, I am thinking about purchasing some Behringer powered 15" PA speakers. I would like to use them for a playback to jam to and also for a small rehearsals or Jams or even a small gig. Do you think this is a good idea or would a passive pair of speakers and a powered board be a better chioce? Thanks

5. Powered or passive mixer   (24 Apr 2009)
Hi all, Was wondering on different opinions on PA set ups for small/medium gigs (thinking portability so not including separate power amps as a choice). Do you prefer a powered mixer with passive speakers or passive mixer and powered speakers, pros/cons? Thanks, Ho'okani

6. Anyone use a powered mixer?   (15 May 2009)
This thread has got me thinking http://acapella.harmony-central.com/...splay.php?f=33 I was originally looking to go the powered speaker route, but unfortunately a lot of powered speakers have yet hit the used market. Meanwhile, you can get something like a 2 used JBL JRX 125s, 1 used Mackie 808, and a JBL PRX518 for around $2000. Do you guys think something like this would make a good system or would it be more wise to purchase something like a mixer, two PRX 512 or Yorkville NXP 55s, and a pai...

7. Leave EP2500 powered on all day?   (31 May 2009)
There is some gadget out there that will let you test a device to see how much power it draws at idle. I can't remember the name, but has anyone used it on an EP2500 to see how much it's drawing at idle? I'm asking because I'm thinking about leaving my EP2500 powered on 24/7 when not in use. This would be due to installing it in a hard to reach location. Bad idea? How much current is it going to draw in comparison with leaving a laptop or desktop PC turned on all day?

8. Which Powered FOH Speakers and 18 in. Subwoofers?   (11 May 2009)
Ok so I've figured out that I need 2 FOH powered speakers and 2 powered 18 in. subwoofers. I'll be using them in bars with 200-400 people. The problem is that I don't have the option to listen to many of the brands, I'll try guitar center but I know they don't have much. First of all, I wanted 15 in. FOH paired with 18 in. subs, but I've seen a lot of recommendations for 12 in. paired with 18 in. Why is this?? Are they as loud and as full? We use a lot of keys/synth, and hip hop vocals. My budge...

9. Hand powered water pumps   (30 Jun 2009)
Water, water everywhere and nar a drop to drink - is a classic statement from the rhyme of the ancient mariner. But in the case of urban survival , there is no water and there is nothing to drink. Most urbanites depend on water supplied by the city - through the cities water system. However, this is also a weak point in disaster planning. Most cities and towns have prohibited their citizens from digging private wells. If that is the case in your area, its time to get the laws changed. Not being...

10. Battery powered amps   (14 Apr 2009)
I may be in the market for purchasing a battery-powered amp. I'm looking for something for an acoustic guitar and microphone with the standard controls. Any opinions on good brands and how reliable they are? Thanks!
