Pujols named NL Player of the Month
(04 Jul 2009)
Quote: : CINCINNATI -- Coming off one of the finest months of his magnificent Major League career, Albert Pujols was named the National League Player of the Month for June on Friday, the second time in three months this season he's been so honored.
Pujols tied a career high for home runs in a month with 14 and became the seventh player in Major League history to reach 30 home runs before July 1. He set a new personal best with 35 RBIs, and he batted .320 with a .427 on-base percentage and an .85...

Manny Ramierez
(07 May 2009)
I just wanted to know what the baseball fans on IA think about Manny. I always hear about the "Manny being Manny" thing, but you can't deny, he puts in the work. Behind The Machine (Albert Pujols) he might be the 2nd most dangerous offensive wepons in the MLB. The Dodgers players love him and the fans even more. I know there are times he looks crazy like when he was rolling on the ground for a ball, and cutting off a throw from an OUTFIELDER , but he can hit and produce offense. What do IA think...

MLB superstars hard to find these days

Here they come.... The "Back in MY day" POV of the game
http://www.azcentral.com/sports/diam...31.html?&wired
Quote: : Where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio?
Indeed.
Just like the Simon and Garfunkel song rang so true a generation ago, a nation once did turn its lonely eyes to the Yankees slugger - and toward a slew of multiple, colorful other major league superstars from various eras, too.
They were everywhere once, weren't they? Remember when everyone was talkin' baseball and talkin' up the stars...

The Mid-Point o' the Season Awards
(01 Jul 2009)
We're three months into the season. There's three months left to go. I understand that some people consider 81 games played as the mid-point of the season for teams but I consider it the months. With just three months to go and three months already gone, this is the mid-point of the season for me. And, I've decided to hand out my Mid-Point o' the Season Awards to the players that I feel are the most deserving of each award. I'm sure some will disagree with my choices but oh well, what good is co...

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Monday, May. 04 2009
WASHINGTON After a nearly two-hour wait, the Washington Nationals postponed
Sunday's series finale against the Cardinals, adding uncertainty to the teams'
late-season schedule.
Cardinals manager Tony La Russa and pitching coach Dave Duncan acted even
before the 1-hour, 54-minute delay, bumping scheduled starter Kyle Lohse to
today against the Philadelphia Phillies. Kyle McClellan was placed on alert to
make a first major-league start...

Series Thread: (41-34) at Cards (41-37) -
(01 Jul 2009)
Sorry I wasn't here last night, here's a recap of the game...
Quote: : ST. LOUIS -- It's looking more and more like Tim Lincecum actually is better than he was last year.
Such a notion should be ridiculous, given the type of performance Lincecum sustained while winning the National League Cy Young Award. But the right-hander recently has exceeded even his own lofty standards, and he continued his ascent Monday night with a career-best two-hitter in the Giants' 10-0 victory over the St. Louis Car...

Searching for balance

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH
Sunday, May. 24 2009
The game was still light in spring training when the easy story line revolved
around new beginnings following a welcome separation from the San Diego Padres.
The Cardinals invested two minor-league relief pitchers and $6.5 million for
Khalil Greene, who would succeed offensively challenged Cesar Izturis as the
franchise's fourth starting shortstop in six seasons. Greene represented an
infusion of power and was advertised by the Cardinal...

CINCINNATI It required 401 pitches, including six that were hit out of the
bandbox by the Ohio called Great American Ball Park.
The visiting Cardinals finished with one available pitcher because they used
seven arms to get the final 12 outs.
Cincinnati overcame three deficits, the third with a two-out, ninth-inning
pinch-hit home run from pitcher Micah Owings.
Cardinals closer Ryan Franklin walked into Sunday's eighth inning unscored...
