HYSTERIA OVER IRISH CLERGY ABUSE
May 20, 2009
After nine years of investigation, Ireland's Commission to
Inquire into Child Abuse has published its findings. More than 30,000
children, most of them delinquents, passed through one or more of Ireland's
Catholic-run institutions from the 1920s through the 1980s.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the report

On another thread, someone posted a comment about the validity of
opinions regarding a topic when the person expressing an opinion had
not read the source for the topic in question. It reminded me of
members of the clergy who denounce a film and urge/tell believers not
to see it even though they themselves have not seen the film. What do
people think? Is it ever valid for someone to expr...

Financial support of religious institutions
(30 Apr 2009)
In both my home congregation and the church that I attend here at school, there has been great alterations in the way money comes in and goes out of the church. This isn't new - my home congregation has been cutting back on all kinds of things for several years now. And thinking about this recently has got me curious to your opinions/practices.
In what ways do we support churches, dioceses, parishes, organizations, or synods? What is our financial responsibility? Does your congregation(s) suppor...

What's the population of classes?
(03 Jun 2009)
While developing character backgrounds for an upcoming game, a minor debate spawned from one of the groups backgrounds. One player wanted his character to be a "faceman" type rogue who normally posed as clergy to go from one place to the other. His idea was being of the clergy allowed him access to places he wouldn't normally be allowed into. He made sure to take religion. Another player didn't think that alone would work, because he said since the rogue can't cast healing spells, he'd be found...

Non legal marriage/wedding (vows, officiants, etc)
(15 Jun 2009)
Groom to be here... For a host of reasons, my fiancee and I do not plan to get 'legally' married (social reasons, medical/insurance reasons), so maybe this belongs more in the 'commitment ceremonies' section, but for all intents and purposes, we're calling it a wedding (because state be d*mned, we will be). It would be a terrible pain to have to explain to everyone our reasoning -- we're comfortable with our arrangement and that's all that should matter.
(For those who are curious here, and with...

Papal apology for mistreatment of Canadian native tribes
Wednesday, April 29, 2009
After his regular weekly public audience on April 29, Pope
Benedict XVI met with leaders of Canadian native tribes,
and offered an apology for the abuses that occurred at the
"residential schools" serving native children in Canada
during the 19th and 20th centuries. The schools separated
native children from their families and strongly
discouraged any manifestations of their native culture;
there have also been...
