1. Folding bike max frame width? opinions   (18 Jun 2009)
Hi everyone, I posted a similar thing on the bike mechanics section of this forum but thought I should ask the people who really deal with this stuff. I'm working on a design for a new folding urban/light trail bike. Part of the design necessitates an upper frame that is made from two pieces, meaning that the minimum clearance between your knees (when pedalling) will be about 140mm, give or take a few mm. Is that something you think you could tolerate? If it meant you could have a light, strong...

2. first bike a mongoose xr250 q's and opinions...   (14 Apr 2009)
all i hear about mongooses are bashes. is it because it is a mass production bike available at walmart? i got it for $230 shipped because i need to exercise. my only issue is i am 6'4" and 240 lbs. i have a limited selection when it comes to bikes. i want a quality bike for ~$250 COMPLETE. is this bike as bad as people say? i think i read about 50/50 reviews ont eh actual bike. a few cases of mongooses breaking, but the cases are between models. i have a fear of the shock screws either breaking,...

3. Thinking about a hitch mounted motorcycle rack - opinions?   (17 May 2009)
Looking at one of these: http://www.discountramps.com/smc-600...cle-hauler.htm The rack will carry my bikes, but will my truck? The bike is right at 500 lbs. Can't seem to find any info on how much carrying weight the Rannger will handle. I'm using a 2" Curt tubular hitch BTW.

4. new bike decisions/opinions?   (19 Jun 2009)
Here it is, another which bike thread... I know they are all good bikes and everyone is going to have a different opinion, but Id love to hear them. Me, Im dirtbike type guy looking for something fun for on the road. No touring or long distance riding, just weekday commuting and weekend pleasure rides. Im 5'8", 170#s and dont mind tall bikes (im not a flat footer when it comes to riding). Most of New England back roads are less than smooth and some are down righ horrible, so Im thinking somethin...

5. Biking w/ child in back seat: opinions on kick stand   (11 May 2009)
My dh is fitting my bike with a back seat for our dd for my Mother's Day present, yeah! The one thing I don't like about my bike is that it doesnt' have a kick stand. I know you can't 'count' on a kick stand to hold a bike up but I find them very helpful when adjusting a helmet or your gear/etc. We biked for our honeymoon and there were a few times that I really grumbled over not having one, especially when adjusting my bags etc. This was formerly my dh's bike and apparently he truly hates kicks...

6. ATV vs. Sport Bike? Need opinions   (20 Jun 2009)
My 300EX has seen better days and now I am in need of a new toy. Its come down to a new 4 wheeler or a sport bike. Im thinking about a new/newer 450R or YFZ 450 for the ATV. GSXR, CBR or R1/6 for a bike. Both have pros and cons of owning. A bike would offer an extra means of transportation and the opportunity to save some gas but is also more expensive to own/insure. Plus with a bike I have to worry about traffic/traffic violations. The new ATV would be badass and I enjoy going camping/riding at...

7. First sport bike opinions   (08 May 2009)
I have a buddy who rides dirt and he wants a street bike. He know what hes doing on his cr125, but i was just curious what others think is a good choice for a first sport bike? He wants a new gsxr 750, but I am trying to talk him into just a 600. Hes about 6' and 180 lbs.

8. About to lay down $1,800 for a bike   (17 Jun 2009)
So First off I am not a total nube to the sport of mountain biking but it has been about 8 years since I have ridden trail and downhill. I really want to get back into it heavy. I think I am going to go FS. I found a good deal at my LBS for a StumpJumper FSR Comp for $1,800. My question is should I spend that kind of dough on a bike when I'm essentially just starting? Should I go with a cheaper Felt FSR? Like the Redemption 3... I think I might know the answer to that but want to hear opinions o...

9. I'm in the market for a new bike. Opinions?   (12 Apr 2009)
I posted this in the sportbike forum too. I currently own a 2007 ZX6R and a 2000 Harley Sportster. I have a bit of a problem in that I think the 883 Iron and the Nightster are what a motorcycle should look like, but I want literbike performance to go with it. Naked bikes are probably as close as I'll ever get, so here are the 3 I'm looking at most seriously. Also considering the new vmax, but it's a bit beyond my preferred price range, I'd have to wait til 2010 for one, and it's a little heavy f...

10. Thinking about a triumph street triple, need opinions   (02 May 2009)
I'm thinking of getting a second bike, my needs are as follows: -great looking bike -around 12-15k -decent gas mileage / 4.5 gallon tank minimum -more used for commuting/hooligan bike-ish / standard layout bike -looking for comfort but with good handling / agility -hopefully pretty light, from 360-410ish lbs I went and checked out the hypermotard, the streetfighter, the tuono, the dorsuduro, the benelis, the z1000, and finally, the triumphs. I'm torn between a speed triple, and a street triple R...
