Thinking about enlisting in the Coast Guard
(06 Jun 2009)
Are there any of you here on GDC that are in the Coast Guard. Just wondering what you think of it. I put in a call today to set up an appointment with a recruiter but I want honest opinions.
I cant really do any other service because I cant get shipped overseas because of my dog. I want to do firefighting or airplane/ helicopter mechanics. Are they hard fields to get into in the coast guard?
Any info would help.

Question about magnetic fields.
(21 Jun 2009)
would multipule Layers of MDF board weaken a magnetic field?
Ive had my desktop sitting near my PC for over a year now and not had any problems. the harddrives set about 2 and a half feet away from the actual magnet from my 18" subwoofers.
The box is 3/4" MDF. I just built a new server and its going to be in the same spot. I was thinking about putting a layer of 3/4" MDF in between the case and the speaker box to help weaken any magnetic strength.
Would that help or do I got it all wrong?

My Thinking About Calendaring and Apple...
(13 Jun 2009)
I've been thinking about this whole Agendus and calendaring (with Apple's limitations) ever since I found out Agendus had been released for the iPhone this morning. Please let me know if any of my statements are out of date (or just plain wrong), but I'm not just throwing out stuff that I haven't heard from at least a fairly reliable source. Here's where I'm at...
Apple has always had a policy about not letting any app get approved for the App Store that duplicates functionality that comes with...

New member - thinking about buying a Defender
(18 Jun 2009)
Hi all,
My current vehicle is a posh, rear-wheel-drive estate car with loads of space, a fantastic smooth engine and an auto box. But my weekend activities have started to require me to drive in and out of fields in any weather, along muddy, deeply rutted tracks etc, and the sedation-wagon described above just can't do it. So now might be the time for me to buy a Landy. I have a childhood memory - I must have been about four at the time, holding my mum's hand outside the chemist's down the road...

Opinions on farm land on Corporate Drive
(30 Jun 2009)
Hi all! We are considering coming up to take a look at a piece of property in the Corporate Drive/River Road area (22 acres) that is currently used for farming/hay fields. I know that there is a lot of development happening on Corporate Drive and much of the area has been zoned for Office/Commercial use. Is that what is taking over the area and are the prospects for pasture land in this area going to be squeezed out eventually for the commercial development? Just wondering if it's worth our time...

Fencing for Pastures -- Opinions
(06 Jul 2009)
We will be re-fencing some of our fields.
Currently, most are post and rail: expensive for us and tasty for the horses.
Two are horrible uncoated wire fence fields with white tape for visibility (guess which ones we are redoing first...
We have looked at the coated wire fencing in white, and it seems like a good way to go.
Any experience with this and other ideas/opinions?
We don't want to use the diamond mesh fencing. Does not work with this property.
Thanks!
