"Thinking about replacing air conditioning unit...is it worth the $??? Opinions...
(14 Jun 2009)
We live in a 3200 square foot 2 level home. We have 3 units. For the past several years, we've used a window unit to help cool down the larger bedroom while allowing the AC unit to cool the other 2 bedrooms. I'm so tired of the noise of the window unit and the inconvenience of getting DH to install and remove it each season. Plus it can't be that energy effecient.
The AC unit is still functioning fine(it is about 9 years old) so I'm having a really hard time deciding to spend so much money. Toda...

just thinking about noise:
(31 May 2009)
It appears that my tryout CX1 should be delivered today...so I was thinking about when I started taking pictures and how I favored TriX over PanX in those days. For those of you that remember that was an increase in speed I believe from 100 to 400, so better low light ability to capture an image, but with more grain (what today is more closely called noise). I never shot in color back then so have no reference as to higher speed color films and what that meant to an image. I do remember my favor...

Thinking about getting a daily-driver for about £2k
(11 Apr 2009)
hey all,
I'm thinking picking up a bit of a runabout, just for toing and froing from work and general duties. Although I'm on a bit of a budget, don't want to spend more than £2k.
My requirements are:
1. It must be reliable.
2. Mechanically sound.
3. Decent condition (obviously as good as possible).
4. Economical to run.
5. Relatively easy to maintain by a DIYer (I'm no mechanic, but I'm not a retard either, so can learn from haynes/internet forums etc).
6. Daily commute is 60 miles 'round trip,...

Thinking about ditching 5DMII for 1DsMII, Need Opinion:
(25 Jun 2009)
So this is where I am. I got the 5D Mark II a couple months back for 2300 with grip. I have been happy with it for the most part, but there are some things that kind of bug me. I like the low noise at 1600 and 3200 and the video is a nice touch to mess around with. The screen is very purtty too.
What I don't like is the AF. When I shoot in low light, which is a lot, the thing hunts. I use a 50 1.4 most of the time and it isn't the slowest lens out there, but not the fastest. I just drives me cra...

Opinions on Front End Noise
(29 Apr 2009)
On my 2004 Cavalier,
I am getting a strange noise in my front end. Mostly when backing out of my driveway and turning the wheels to straighten up on the road. The noise sounds like a "spring" as it boings???? Could it be the strut spring moving in its mount? I have the front end checked out and all is tight including the stabilizer bar but this noise is driving me nuts.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Jim

Noise Removal software like Noise Ninja
(16 May 2009)
Today it was quite dull when I was taking some shots of the huge wind turbines we have in the UK. I was really struggling to get a result on the LCD and although I was using a 17-55 2.8 and then used a 70-200 F.4 I was still struggling so I put the ISO up to 1600 on the 40D. I managed to get a result which looked not to bad in the histogram and LCD. Needless to say a lot of the shots when I got home were quite noisy.
I have looked at Noise Ninja and I downloaded the Standard version and wow what...

opinions on front end noise?
(12 Jun 2009)
I'm assuming bad wheel bearing but just wanted some expert opinions before I go purchanse parts.
symptoms started as scratchy squeaking type sound about a week ago in the front driver side. That sound has softened somewhat through the week and now I can detect a hint of growling as I slow down. (almost sounds like a cat purring) Only makes these sounds when driving straight or turning left. With right turns, its completely quiet. Jacked up the front end and there is no play that I can detect whi...

How much valve noise is healthy??
(19 Apr 2009)
Hey my mk2 vr has made mild valve noise for quite some time. its an obd1 coilpack motor and multiple people ive talked to have said its nothing out of the ordinary. I just wanted to get some other opinions because i dont want to have to do headwork at the moment. The sound def is not the chain and its comeing from the valve train. the motor has somewhere north of 120k on it and i had another vr before that didnt really make this noise. im wondering if anyone has any recommendations on what i cou...
