IS BLU-RAY WORTH IT????

Hello all,
I would like to know what you the readers think about buying blu-ray right now. I see that player prices have dropped and so have movie prices. My big question is should I buy blu-ray or is another format around the corner, laying in wait to knock off blu-ray? Let me know what you think about time frames for the new formats. Also, what do you think these formats will bring? Thanks!

What do you think about Blu Ray Recorders coming to the US? Also, do you believe that they will ever become mainstream and if/when the prices will decrease enough to make that possible?

I've been thinking about buying a blu-ray player but I want one that I can play region 1 blu-ray discs on. I've had a look on amazon and this one seems like a good player but is there a way I can play region 1 discs on it?

06-24-2009, 08:01 PM I'm a moderately hardcorde gamer (modcore?) and a huge film buff. I have a lot, but not an extreme number, of DVD's and was thinking about buying a Blu-Ray player.
My question is: should I buy the cheapest, but still brand-name, Blu-Ray player, or get a PS3?
Things I'm wondering:
--Will the PS3 be around that much longer?
--Is a pricedrop coming?
--Quality difference?

I am thinking about getting a Sony Blu Ray Player to replace my current Toshiba Up- conversion player. I use a mid grade "Pure AV" HDMI cable (around $50) and get fantastic picture out of the Toshiba up Convesion.
My TV is a 2005 modle Sony KDP-57WS655 57' Wide Screen HD rear projection TV. A little old as far as HD goes. It maxes at 1080i. I also use it with a Sony 'Dream System" surround sound set up. 5.1.
If i purchase the Sony Blu Ray player will I see a BIG difference in picture quality lik...

Hi
Just wondering if there are any Blu-Ray SteelBook Collectors amongst members here? I recently bought an used copy of the Canadian Futureshop release of The Dark Knight Steelbook. This is my first SteelBook and it is still in transit, I am quite excited about it.
What do people think about these items as collectors of Blu-Ray movies?
I have never seen a Blu-Ray SteelBook in person in any of our local shops, anyone knows if any was released here in Australia?

I was thinking about getting a Blu-Ray drive to watch movies on my HTPC. Here are my current specs.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
MSI MS-7145 motherboard
1GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT
Windows XP Home SP3
