Music while drilling
(06 Jun 2009)
For years, we've been giving patients CD players to listen to while I work on them. I keep a large collection of CDs in the office. I was thinking of going to Ipods, but don't want patients fiddling with playlists while I'm trying to work on them (some folks do bring their own, though). We have tower computers in each operatory that we use for x-rays and charting, I was thinking about having them listen to internet radio stations while I work. Volume control may be an issue, though, for some rea...

Plexi drilling problem
(11 Jun 2009)
I've read two different opinions on drilling plexi here. So far I've tried both super-fast and ultra slow with no luck. No matter what I do the plastic cracks. Can someone give me some advice?

Corrosion protection after drilling holes in steel
(28 May 2009)
What is the best way to prevent rust after drilling/installing self-tapper screws into painted sheetmetal? Is there some sort of 'goo' that can be squeezed or sprayed into a hole to cover and protect the sheetmetal as the screw is being installed?
I'd like recommendations of a product that is quick and easy, with little or no unasssembled 'drying time' and which doesn't splatter, scatter, dribble or run (ie: suitable for manufacturing process)
Lanitec? Zinc-rich primer? Mastic? Cavity wax?

Drilling Glass UPRIGHT
(19 Jun 2009)
Just wondering if anyone has ever done it and if there are any special precautions.
I'm drilling 2 holes in the back of the BC29 and am intending to leave the tank upright while I do this so that I can keep the substrate in the tank and not remove it and deal with the associated nightmare.
My "plan" is to line the existing BC29 sump with plastic to catch any glass shards/debris, and then have a hose running on the bit & glass while I drill through it horizontally.
Seeking thoughts/opinions on th...

Drilling holey rock
(17 Apr 2009)
Just got back from a trip to San Antonio and picked up some nice pieces of wild caught holey rock in a river bed behind my parent's house.
On a couple of pieces, the holes in the holey rock are pretty small (1/2") and I was thinking about using a hole saw or a hammer and chisel to enlarge them. Any advice?

Young man thinking about Portland.
(29 Jun 2009)
Hello everybody, hoping I can find some help here.
I'm almost 25 & single thinking about moving to Portland in the next year or two. I'm from Kansas & was raised in mid western courtesy & values but am also open minded & extremely adventurous to say the least.
My main questions are these,
As you can tell by my screen name, I'm an avid motorcyclist of the sport oriented type. I've lived other places & have found many that have an anti bike mindset. What is the motorcycling community like there?

opinions for my 30-30
(27 May 2009)
I have a late 1930's model winchester 30-30 lever....in excellent condition
That vintage model did NOT have the receiver drilled and tapped for a peep sight.
I was thinking about having that done, the receiver drilled and tapped and installing a better sight than the one on now.
BUT I hesitate because something in my "gut" tells me not to mess with such an old classic and not to modify it in this way.
I do shoot this at 100 yards with the open sights , but I have found on my other rifles that a...

Opinions on this bench drill please?
(05 May 2009)
Okay been using a Clarke drill press stand (the kind you clamp a corded drill into) and I find when drilling box the top face has a hole in the middle and the bottom face somewhere closer to the edge.
So I'm gonna bite the bullet and buy a bench drill (not got room for a pillar drill).
I want one that's not gonna have any play in it - this is about as much as I can run to cost wise. I like the fact that it's rack and pinion, and has a work table on a ratchet system (as opposed to the cheaper Cla...
