Trek 4500 opinions please
(21 Apr 2009)
Hi all. I'm looking at getting a Giant Rainier this week (payday on Friday dontcha know) and can get an '08 for £340. But - an extra ton will buy me the Trek 4500 and I'd like to know if it's worth going for it?
I'm going to use the bike for tow-path commuting until my fitness increases and then some gentle off-roading until I know what I'm doing. I'm thinking about the Trek as it seems a better specced bike than the Giant and I'm thinking that a better chainset will be more use to me than the G...

Thinking about a Trek Dio
(06 Jun 2009)
I was inspired by the SOTL Calendar entry which depicted the USS Columbia being discovered 200 years after it's disappearance.
I'd like to recreate this...or something close to it. Not sure if I should go the desert route or do a water landing.

Need some opinions from Trek 520 owners..
(26 Jun 2009)
Let me preface this..
I bike commute.. 25 miles one way, 5 days a week. Basically we're looking at 250 miles a week. At the moment I have a stable of bikes, most of which are various flavors of MTB. While it's a comfortable platform for me, it's obviously not "efficient". I'm looking to thin the herd a bit ( I own 11 bikes at the moment) and in doing so am looking to buy a bike that does dedicated commuter duty and the occasional tour.
If I look at the touring bikes, bike of choice is the 520, w...

Surprising Star Trek fan opinions
(26 Apr 2009)
Until I joined this website, I didn't know much about general opinions of Star Trek fans on all things Star Trek. I don't have a lot of friends who are Star Trek fans, and most other websites I've frequented haven't had a lot of Trekkies/Trekkers on them. As a result, there are a lot of opinions I was surprised to learn about since joining. Among them are the following...

Violence in Trek lit: Opinions?
(11 Jun 2009)
This is my first new thread!
I was following a thread added recently to the Deep Space Nine forum, about violence in "Blood Oath" and responses to Jadzia's actions in that episode. I replied to it, and am now very thoughtful about violence as portrayed in Trek. Being free from the requirements of a TV show, (often restrictive), the literature line can take a deeper and more complicated view of violence, its effects, aftermath and ultimate meaning (or lack of). How do the authors feel about writi...

Star Trek: The Continuation (SPOILERS for 'Star Trek')
(12 May 2009)
Ever since seeing the new 'Star Trek' movie on Thursday, I've spent most of my time here on the BBS in the 'Star Trek IX' forum, participating in various discussions, and I have found myself wondering about the possibility of - and interest in - a collaborative effort to create an ongoing set of continuing adventures for Kirk and Co. spinning off of the events of the new movie while we wait for the inevitable sanctioned continuation(s) of the 'nuTrek' universe from Abrams and Co.
Even though the...
