Thinking about a new TS
(25 Jun 2009)
I currently have a 20 year old Craftsman contractor saw. I only do hobby work but do build nice furniture type projects. I have been considering a new saw and think the Grizzly G0478 may be what I need. It's their hybrid, 2 HP cabinet saw.
I know I've come to the right place for opinions so let me know what you think. The price on it right now is $850 + $89 shipping and is at the upper limit of what I feel I can spend.

Please, before you complain more, stop and think about what you're saying...
(26 Jun 2009)
I keep seeing the same asinine complaints over and over again. Let's stop and think about them for a minute:
Complaint 1: The developers are releasing content without any regard for what the players think.
Reality: Developers exist to satisfy the players. While they may get some things wrong, everything they change is because they feel it will enhance the gameplay. They are not changing things because they want to piss you off. They are changing things because they think it will make you enjoy t...

Hey, new guy thinking about a Magnum
(11 Jun 2009)
Hey all.
I'm thinking about trading my Avalanche for a Magnum. Going to be a new daddy next month, and would like to cut some costs...
I found a 2008 SXT with 12k miles for $15888, and it seems to be a clean car, and from what I've seen online it's a pretty decent deal. I'm just not sure. I've had several people tell me I should go with an older one, cause they're easier to mod, and some parts have changed for the worse. Well, I'm not really worried about modding (I have enough other projects fo...

How to sort associated classes from different projects
(06 May 2009)
I have a situation where I'm refactoring old code, taking apart an old monster project and splitting it (for various reasons) into smaller sub projects. One project is going to end up containing mostly interfaces while their associated implementations are in another project, and I'm not sure about the best way of setting up the package structure.
Should I go for
org.company.interfaceproject.util.InterfaceClass and
org.company.implementationproject.util.ImplementationClass
or
org.company.project....

Finding the motivation for doing spare time projects
(16 Apr 2009)
I believe that spare time programming projects are an important way to improve my skills as a developer, but lately I've been having troubles finding the motivation to work on them.
I used to have at least 2-3 projects going on at all times, but then I got a job in the industry... Don't get me wrong - I love working as a programmer, and I still get the same kick out of creating stuff, but I'm just not motivated to code when I'm at home.
I don't know the exact reason for this, but here are some g...

How to handle bug workitems spanning over different Team Projects.
(03 Jul 2009)
We are working with Team System on a customized agile process quite a while, but there is one question still unsolved.
We are developing a software tool in different release versions. For each release of our product (4.0, 5.0, 6.0) we are using one team project containing the source code of this release.
In a nutshell, the question is: How do we handle bug workitems, which are to be fixed in all of these team projects? We are thinking about these alternatives:
1.) Create in each team project...

Thinking about changing careers
(23 Jun 2009)
I've been in IT for 10 years and have had 9-5 jobs as well as a consulting business that built ground up infrastructure and systems for new companies.
I've been a DIY home automation guy for a few months and am thinking about jumping ship and joining you guys in the Home Theater and Home Automation market.
It seems there are any number of directions I could head in and I'm looking for advice on what to pursue.
I'm in awe of the beautiful projects Electronic House feature and hope to make it to t...

What is the best default location for projects in Visual Studio?
(23 May 2009)
Over the years I have vacillated between having my project/source folders in a directory one level removed from the root (e.g. D:\Projects) and keeping them in the default location for Visual Studio.
In the past, I resisted storing anything in the various "My Documents" folders established by Win 95, Win 98, and XP. I finally switched to storing them in the Documents folder since Vista shortened the path and I got tired of changing default directories for my dev tools. However, now I find myself...

UPCOMING MILLAR PROJECTS
(27 May 2009)
Hey,
Just back at my desk after another short trip away. You have no idea how many trips I've done since last Summer. It's insane! Fortunately, all my artists about 10% slower than me so nobody's been waiting on pages, but it was a close thing. Pleased to see not only all the current projects not only wrapping up, but being so well-received. The last fifteen months has seen Kick-Ass, FF, Wolverine Old Man Logan, 1985 and War Heroes all released and it's probably the wave of books in my career I'...
