Humboldt County cities restrict military
Matthew B. Stannard, Chronicle Staff Writer
Sunday, April 26, 2009
This picturesque community among the redwoods, once dubbed "the Berkeley of the north" for its reputation for unabashed liberalism, has repeatedly thumbed its nose at the federal government.
Over the years, its civic leaders have declared this city a sanctuary f...

Where's All The Anti-War Protestors These Days????
(16 May 2009)
Obama said he was going to get us out of the Middle Beast, but he's actually increasing the number of troops by 21,000.
Where are the protestors?
Where are the marches?
Where are the signs?
Could it be that liberals just hated Bush and used the war as an excuse to march around sway public opinion against him in order to prop up a liberal candidate in the 2008 presidential election?
Obama has flip-flopped on showing the torture pictures.
Obama has flip-flopped on military tribunals for the Gitmo...

Is It Possible To Be An Anti-War Activist, And Still Support President Obama...
(15 May 2009)
My friend Dick Kazan does not think so, and is speaking out. As someone who has held 100's of 1 man candlelight vigils protesting the war in Iraq and Afghanistan (you can read the summary of each weekly vigil, here - http://candlelightvigils.blogspot.com ), he is upset and disappointed with the choices President Obama has made in regard to the expansion of our military positions in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as the continued occupation in Iraq. Here is his latest column, and he appreciate...

Perception Management and exercise of power
(13 May 2009)
"Those who manage perception affect the exercise of power in society."
I think that media sources can influence a persons perception of a topic, (for example you could be pro-war or anti-war based on your upbringing and your media) Media can also better inform you or mis-inform you.
What you guys think about this? Can Rupert Murdoch effect your political decisions?

Re: " If you followed the thread you'd know this"
I've read the thread and followed the links back to your original post, and I don't see it.
If you're referring to this backhanded comment of yours:
Yes not everyone who goes into the military is bad of course. Sorry for the harsh portrayal. My back gound is a bit radical from those days when I helped organize anti-war protests.
Anyway my position is that Christians don't serve in direct military duty in wars....anywhere. That's why I posted that...

Military/academic reaction to radical groups/biased news?
(22 May 2009)
Hi everyone,
Here is a new thread for thought. "Anti-war" groups like Code Pink claim they present a peace movement, but after doing research on them, they come out of the Bolshevik revolution and extreme Marxism, yet are considered a tax exempt organization by the government. They defaced a military recruitment office in Berkley, California a few years ago, which amounts to vandalism. And during Gen. Petraeus's hearings in 2007, they had to be escorted out of the Armed Forces Hearing for disrup...

Iraq War Video Game Abandoned After Pressure From Activists
(27 Apr 2009)
I thought this was an odd little story. LINK
Apparently, facing protests and pressure from anti-war groups, Konami (a Japanese video game manufacturer) has scrapped plans for their upcoming "Six Days In Falluja." The company claims they were out to make "the most realistic military shooter possible." Diaries, military documents, satellite imagery, interviews with Iraqis, fully-destructible environments, etc. In fact, they define it as a survival horror game.
No, I'm not a "gamer." But I'm curiou...

lyrics
(22 May 2009)
i was wondering what you guys thought about lyrics in songs and how important it is to really understand what a singer is talking about.
the singer in my band is a great singer and, in my opinion, writes some great lyrics. they're not obvious lyrics, but more metaphoric and quite dark and emotional. sometimes i don't know exactly what he's referring to cos of some of the words he uses, but you know he's writing about something dark and close to him. in amongst his lyrics, you'll find some amazin...

"Barack Obama Has Become George Bush"

"Barack Obama Has Become George Bush"
"Barack Obama Has Become George Bush"
by James Glaser
May 15, 2009
That Quote: above comes from one of the dyed-in-the-wool Barack Obama supporters who rent art studios near mine. I think it is so cool, because this guy, and a couple of other guys I work near, are all starting to see that Barack Obama is doing the same things George Bush did. For a couple of years I have been telling them that Democrats are not much different than Republicans, and that corpo...
