So, opinions on Somalia's pirates? Now I know this will be no surprise, but I greatly sympathize with these fellows. The reason for the whole pirate gig is that fishing trawlers from rich capitalist nations overfished somalia's waters since no one could stop them, so the somali fishermen started pirating the trawlers and later moved on to other ships to keep making their living since all the fish were gone. Something to me seems not right about the Somali pirates
Ok so they say they are only stopping toxic waste being dumped in the Ocean - I have no doubt such things are occuring but there is also evidence of attacks on boats which are merely passing through the Gulf of Aden which is plain for all to see.
The international media however seems to be over exaggerating the problem in my opinion, it makes the front page of bbc.co.uk on an almost daily basis

I think it's about to hit a big head and be a major crisis. They are so damn brazen and in our face. I hate it! Why don't the ships just put machine guns on them with security? Why are the pirates able to just do this at will to any ship?
If Somalia wants to have complete lawlessness in their own country fine. That's their problem. Now though, it's spilling out in a major way and they are really a PITA.
