Americans: What do you think of Affirmative Action?
(28 May 2009)
I addressed this thread to Americans, but I welcome everyone's opinions. I have been a long supporter of Affirmative Action, and I value diversity in general. However, this comment from TarzanMan, in addition to something that happened to me recently, has made me question what effects AA is having on the US.
Quote: : As an aside: white people are awful sensitive lately.... whats the problem? Are high level posts being filled by people with a different skin color (or gender) than you? Man... I've...

I SOMETIMES READ A FIREARMS FORUM BECAUSE I AM INTO THAT AND AM OCCASIONALLY SUBJECTED TO RW RANTS. HERE IS ONE AND MY RESPONSE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED. THE ORIGINAL RANT IS IN Quote: S.
"YES, I'M A BAD AMERICAN".

"I Am the Liberal-Progressives Worst Nightmare."
Speaking as one of the very few progressive liberals on this board, I would like to address these item by item. I'm rather rushing through this, so I hope you excuse any grammatical or spelling errors.
As a preliminary matter,...

American Soldiers Held as Slaves by the Nazis
(21 Jun 2009)
I normally would not post anything from CNN but I felt that this article (even though it is long) needed to be shared.
It hits very close to home as my Dad was 1/2 Jewish and served with the U.S. Marine Corps in WWII - of course he was not sent to Europe but served in the South Pacific. He came home uncared and lived a long and healthy life.

Why can't people take an honest opinion?
(21 Apr 2009)
Why can't people take an honest opinion? So I was talking to a certain someone, he wanted a comment on his track. Keep in mind that I dislike the sound of heavy processed music. I like to remind him of this because I'm not going to be feeling it as much as other people may be. Conversation is as follows (if you want me to remove this conversation, I will, mystery person).
A) It sounds really processed. Especially the snare.
B) yeh know u hate that, but its kinda the vibe with that genre really

Blowback: The Cost and Consequences of American Foreign Policy
(04 May 2009)
Introduction
"Blowback" is a term used by scholars of international relations. It refers to an unpredicted, negative response against a nation in regards to a diplomatic action previously undertaken by that nation. [1] What the daily press reports as the malign acts of "terrorists" or "drug lords" or "rogue states" or "illegal arms merchants" often turn out to be blowback from earlier foreign policy operations. The terrible, momentous events of September 11, 2001 were, in fact, the most stun...

"How do I get DD out of swimming in PE? (sorry long!)"
(18 Apr 2009)
LET ME EXPLAIN BEFORE I GET BASHED!!
I don't believe in getting my kids out of anything they are supposed to do just because they don't want to do it ESPECIALLY when it come to education. DH and I are very strict when it comes to education and DD is a 4.0 student.
Here is the issue....DD is half African-American and I am Puerto Rican/Mexican with VERY curly, course hair. So, my baby has inherited some crazy hair. It's taken years & a lot of money to get it the way she wants it. I was teased terr...

Husband coming back form Tex/Mex border tomorrow
(26 Apr 2009)
Hi all,
I mistakenly posted this in another previously started thread ( oops and I'm sorry), but my husband has been traveling for work in TX for the last week. He is currently about five miles from the Mexico border. He has not been to Mexico, although the town that has been in has VERY high Mexican population.
He is flying home on a commercial plane tomorrow.
I am looking for opinions on whether we should be doing something special -- like him wearing mask, or driving instead of breathing recy...

Sums up how i feel
(29 May 2009)
yep this is how feel. Now i am jot sure Rooney said it all...got this in s email. But like i said it pretty much sums it up for me.
Right on, Andy Rooney!
Andy Rooney said on "60 Minutes" a few weeks back:
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of
anything except numbers. The only things I can
think of that are truly discriminatory are things like
the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine,
Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America.
Try to have things like the United Cau...

AP Poll: Americans high on Obama, direction of US
Quote: : By RON FOURNIER and TREVOR TOMPSON, Associated Press Writers Ron Fournier And Trevor Tompson, Associated Press Writers 1 hr 5 mins ago
WASHINGTON
For the first time in years, more Americans than not say the country is headed in the right direction, a sign that Barack Obama has used the first 100 days of his presidency to lift the public's mood and inspire hopes for a brighter future.
Intensely worried about their personal finances an...
