Timing belt squeal, need advice.

OK, so I'm getting a squealing noise from my 2001 TDI. Definitely engine-related. Only does it for the first 2-3 minutes in the morning. After that, if it's there it's drowned out by the usual diesel engine sounds. After the car sits for 2 hours or so, it comes back softer but again disappears after a few minutes of running.
Sounds like a bearing going out to me. A high-pitched, metallic squeal. Not continuous, but a short squeal once per revolution. Here is a link to a video with sound. http://...

Shoelace Belts

I only wear shoelace belts because I don't want a belt digging into my side when I'm skating.

When I did my first and last timing belt, I had the hood removed anyway. Now, of course, the hood's on... Want opinions on this question from all that have done a timing belt job...

Mazda 3 timing belt

Hey guys, i have a 2004 mazda 3i 2.0 engine. honestly i have no idea whether my car a timing belt or a chain. If i do have the timing belt, do u guys know the approximate mileage it should b done? I have 90k on my car, i havent done anything to the timing belt, just today decided to think about it..

Timing belt change: VW-specific mechanic only?

I have an '02 Jetta tdi manual. It's time for a timing belt change (245k miles, just over 80k since the last change -- I bought the car 70k ago).
I had planned to take it to a local shop that has done decent work in the past, on this car and a Honda Civic, including changing the TB on the Civic, but he's definitely not a VW specialist, just a good generalist. I've read a few posts on TDI TB changes on this forum, and am now starting to wonder whether it requires someone with lots of specific VW...

I've gradually worked it into my routine now to the point where I don't even think about it most times. I'm probably up to about 85% of time strapped in, and rising. I still catch myself forgetting now and then though.

Belt status question

Hi moose/guy's, I was playing with my favourite mining bot today and I noticed that when I close the bot completely it looses track of what belts it thinks are good/bad/profitable next time I load it back up.
Now this isn't such a bad thing especially what with Friday's regular roid respawn after down time. But I was thinking could it not be possible to have these belt status's saved to a temporary file and then have the bot check the status of belt's that were depleted after Friday's downtimes?...
