1. Upgrading from Core 2 Duo to Core 2 Quad   (27 Apr 2009)
Well I'm wondering, is it ultimately worth it? My current CPU is a Core 2 Duo E6850 clocked to 3.5GHz and I'm thinking about changing over to a Core 2 Quad Q9650. Is it worth it for games? I'm currently running Windows XP 32, but am planning to go to Windows 7 64-bit. Games run well on my system as it is but would changing out to a quad core net me a truly better result? I also want to get better RAM, maybe the better DDR2-1066 for it. Can anyone give me any suggestions?

2. AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, Core 2 Quad Q6650, i7 920   (26 Jun 2009)
I'm thinking about build my first computer, this computer will be for gaming, so I want the opinion of people about it. I don't really care if it is AMD, or Intel, i just care if it is a good processor and if does what I want it to do. My options by what I was looking are: -(1)AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103674 -(2)Intel Core 2 Quad 6650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819115130 -(3)Intel i7 920 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [......

3. Shelf life for an NP8662 (quad core w/ 260M)   (17 Apr 2009)
Okay guys...after Balmore posted some initial impressions on how ETW is playing on the NP8662 I find my resolve is waning in waiting for a new middle weight 17inch MXM3.0 variant from Clevo. Therefore I'm considering the cheaper, more portable 8662. Based on the configs discussed below and current / future games what do you think the shelf life (1, 2, 3, 4 years) of this laptop is from a gaming performance perspective (i.e. staying in the top 1/3rd of performance settings in games). Opinions on...

4. New System Build Quandry   (28 Jun 2009)
I'm at the point of my current system's life that I've started thinking about my next build. I'd like to make a system that's somewhat future proof, although that may be a moot point due to the frequency that Intel and nVidia release new models of their CPUs and GPUs. My main concern is making a system that will last me at least four years minimum without breaking my bank account. Here's what I'd like some input on: Quad Core vs. Core i7 - Is it worth it to go for an i7 build right now or wait f...

5. MBP 17" or MP? [Photoshop, Aperture]   (06 May 2009)
OK so we're hearing a lot of chatter about the fact that PS only uses one Core etc so here's another slant. I've currently got a 2.16GHz Core Duo 17" MBP, with the max 2GB ram. Most of the time I use it plugged into a 24" HP IPS monitor for editing photos in Aperture and Photoshop. But I do use it for client viewings so the big screen is very useful. I might have iTunes running in the background sometimes as well but not always. I use the internal drive + 2 NAS backup discs. Now when I'm importi...

6. Looking for 3d rendering machine(s) - AMD or Intel?   (08 Jun 2009)
Hi, I've got a laptop I use for 3d rendering, and I am unhappy with the heat it puts out, and am afraid it will fail like my last one did. So, I am thinking about selling it, and using the funds from that to build a new desktop. I will be using this machine pretty much only for 3d rendering work. The gaming I do is inconsequential. My budget is $900-1200 with shipping. Shipping will be to Fairbanks, AK, so expensive. I will be looking for the whole setup. Case, MB, CPU, Video Card, RAM, PSU, HD,...

7. Logical Thinking about Things (Grown ups talking)   (19 Jun 2009)
When I ask most people why they use a mac they say because of the Mac OS (Notice I said most ppl, not all ppl). Why doesn't apple just sell the mac OS separately from their mac hardware like Microsoft sells windows separately from the pcs? Since they don't sell it separately, I need to buy a mac to use the OS X (unless you hack and shit but for the average person they have to buy a mac) My sister for instance wants a mac for this video editing program that she says is not on windows. We were loo...

8. 2nd, 3rd, 4th...opinions   (22 Jun 2009)
So I'm looking at making some upgrades to my desktop when I get off this deployment in a month and I just wanted to see what everyone thinks of the route that I think I'm going to go. From what I can remember my current build is: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 MoBo: Abit IP35-e GPU: ATI HD 4850 (don't remember if it's the 512MB or 1GB and which manufacturer made it.) RAM: 4GB Crucial DDR2 800 PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX 450W HDD: Maxtor 250GB SATA 1.5Gb/s Monitor: 20" WS Samsung Sorry I can't be anymo...

9. KODE?s PC upgrade: Opinions please guys.   (11 Apr 2009)
Hi Fellas, As some of you may know, in the next week I?m applying for a job interview at PA and I think this is the perfect opportunity to buy me new PC. It?s gonna be basically for CAD/CAM/CAE, Rendering and gaming, so I browsed the Forums a bit and came to the following setup: CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Mobo: EVGA 680i - A1 PSU: PC Power and Cooling Silencer 750 Quad RAM: 1024MB x 2 CorsairXMS2 PC2-8500 Dominator HD: Seagate Barracuda/ 320GB / 7200rpm / 16MB / SATA-300 I just have one simple...
