1. Authors-- Your opinions please   (14 May 2009)
This goes out to all the authors here. What did you think of the new movie?

2. Paypal IPN issues. Any opinions on Authorize AIM or other solutions?   (24 Apr 2009)
Hello, This is my first post. I'm not satisfied with Paypal IPN because it can be confusing to credit card customers when they are taken to Paypal.com to complete the transaction (if they make it that far). I think I lost a customer at Step 2 of 3 Payment Information. There is a Payment Method box that suggests that a payment method could be selected. However, with Paypal IPN there is no selection to make because the selection cannot made until the customer gets to the Paypal.com page. We use Ho...

3. Something to think about with Clay Matthews   (16 Apr 2009)

Clay Matthews, who played some DE at USC, would probably put his hand in the ground from time to time and rush as a defensive end on 3rd downs if we drafted him. When...

4. Writing that tracks the authors reactions to great works   (01 Jun 2009)
I'm looking for writings (especially blogs) in which the author sets out to consume (read, listen to, look at, watch, etc.) a prodigious amount of content, then writes about his/her reactions. Good examples would be if someone read every novel on the Modern Library list of the 100 greatest novels, or listened to every song on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest songs, then wrote about it. An actual example would be David Plotz's Blogging the Bible -- the author (who was no Bible expert befo...

5. A word of warning for widget authors - widget uploading terms   (29 Jun 2009)
A word of warning for widget authors - widget uploading terms Some of you don't read "Terms for widgets" carefully when uploading, or read it once and don't check it for changes every time you upload or update a widget. Well, you really should. Here is a paragraph that was quite shocking for me: By uploading Content to Opera’s site, you grant Opera an unrestricted, royalty-free, worldwide, irrevocable license to use, reproduce, display, perform, modify, transmit and distribute such material in a...

6. Old Authority boarders   (24 Jun 2009)
The message board thread made me think about the days of GOB and the day we don't speak of. I would like to know how many original Authority boarders still remain here.

7. What's the point of author-bashing?   (27 May 2009)
I've been observing everyone's opinions for a while. On Meyer, and Dan Brown. But I'm starting to think that this bashing stuff is pointless. I'm not sticking up for anyone, but Meyer and Brown had things that possibly no one here could accomplish. And maybe we should learn from them? I decided to keep my opinions to myself for a while until I could hear everyone's views about someone. What's the point of bashing certain authors if people have different tastes? Why should we bash them when they...

8. Elisabeth Hasselbeck Sued by Author for Stealing Book Idea   (24 Jun 2009)
More drama for Elisabeth Hasselbeck. The View cohost -- who sparks controversy for her conservative opinions -- is being sued by an author who claims Hasselbeck, 32, stole her book idea. Self-published author Susan Hassett states in a federal lawsuit filed in Boston that Hasselbeck infringed on her copyrights by publishing a book on Celiac Disease called The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide last month, the Boston Herald reports. Publicists for ABC and Hasselbeck's publisher, Hachette Bo...

9. something to think about   (03 May 2009)
Quote: : Not long ago, sports writer Selena Roberts compared the Duke lacrosse players to gang members and career criminals. She claimed that the players’ unwillingness to confess to or snitch about a rape (that did not happen) was the equivalent of drug dealers and gang members promoting antisnitching campaigns. When since-disgraced district attorney Mike Nifong whipped up a media posse to rain justice on the drunken, male college students, Roberts jumped on the fastest, most influential horse,...

10. (NYT Breaking) Justice Report Opposes Prosecuting Torture-Memo Authors   (05 May 2009)
Source: NY Times WASHINGTON — An internal Justice Department inquiry into the conduct of Bush administration lawyers who wrote secret memorandums authorizing brutal interrogations has concluded that the authors committed serious lapses of judgment but should not be criminally prosecuted, according to government officials briefed on a draft of the findings. The report by the Office of Professional Responsibility, an internal ethics unit within the Justice Department, is also likely to ask that st...
