AMD Vs Intel:
(06 Jun 2009)
Don't let the title mislead you. While I am comparing the two, its in a different way. I prefer the Intel processors, but I'm currently seeking a graduation gift for someone and we are looking at getting her a cheapish laptop. It will need to mainly be used for school and casual uses, but the graduate will likely do some light gaming (I think she is into the Sims at the moment). Nothing too heavy. Laptops with dedicated graphics cards are really only available in higher end models so I'm likely...

Looking for 3d rendering machine(s) - AMD or Intel?
(08 Jun 2009)
Hi,
I've got a laptop I use for 3d rendering, and I am unhappy with the heat it puts out, and am afraid it will fail like my last one did. So, I am thinking about selling it, and using the funds from that to build a new desktop.
I will be using this machine pretty much only for 3d rendering work. The gaming I do is inconsequential.
My budget is $900-1200 with shipping. Shipping will be to Fairbanks, AK, so expensive.
I will be looking for the whole setup. Case, MB, CPU, Video Card, RAM, PSU, HD,...

iMac 2.4GHz vs. iMac 2.66GHz
(11 Jun 2009)
I was curious of peoples opinions on the below comparison. The price difference is $150 more for iMac 2. I see that bringing the RAM equal would be $25-30 on Crucial, and for both to bring it up to the 4GB supported is like $50-60. so not a big difference, and I'd probably do that regardless of which one was purchased.
So really, the main dividing factors are the 1) processor speed bump, 2) 250 vs 320 GB drive and 3) the graphics card. Also, is there a difference between "fronside bus" and "syst...

Which laptop should I get TOSHIBA vs. ACER
(18 Jun 2009)
Hey guys I need some good opinions on which computer to get...
The first one is an Acer Timeline. The main thing that attracts me to this laptop is the look and battery life. The processor isn't as fast as I would like it to be (1.4GHz) but it has this new processor called the Intel Core 2 Solo Here are the specs....

Mac Pro vs iMac, which is for me?
(09 Apr 2009)
I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum before...
I am having trouble figuring out if an iMac or a Mac Pro is better for my needs. I was going to go with an iMac but I didn't expect the new ones to still have the Core 2 Duo in them. I don't want to feel like my computer is outdated a year from now and I think that the core 2 duo is going to be just that.
Right now, I have the 1st gen macbook w/ 2gb memory and 320gb 7200rpm hard drive. Still stuck with the intel core duo at 2.0ghz though.

Crossfire 4850 vs single 4890 - Slightly different scenario.
(11 Jun 2009)
I have read from this thread that dual 4850s are going to be more powerful than a single 4890 and the general consensus from what I've seen is that 4850s in CF beats a GTX280 to a bloody pulp which I would guess is around the level of a 4890. I do have a different problem however.
Currently, I own a Core 2 Duo E7200 box with an HD3850, an Intel P43 motherboard and a Corsair VX450 powering it all. I also own a Core 2 Quad Q6700 computer with a single HD4850, an Asus P5Q Pro (P45, so Crossfire cap...
