(off topic) Whats do you guys think about Shaq going to Cleveland?
(25 Jun 2009)
I love it for the Cavs. Shaq is 37-38. but you know what? he played good last year, and you know what else? even though hes far past his prime, hes still 7'1 325 lbs. and one more thing, they didn't give up much for him.
Ben Wallace isn't as good as Shaq despite being younger. Sasha is no big loss.
Imagine LeBron with his passing ability driving to the hoop and dumping it in to Shaq....who is going to get relief by playing along side Ilagaskas.
As a Celtics fan, I'm obviously not happy about thi...

Forum Writing Competition? - Total War: Fan Fiction - Off Topic
(27 Jun 2009)
How would the delectable members of the Fiction section feel about a new competition?
I'm open to suggestions, but I was thinking about testing our describing abilities. For example, a person, place or thing is selected, and then those wishing to enter simply write a description of that person, place or thing within a designated word limit.
How does that sound?

Off Topic: Anyone ever switched back to a PC?
(15 May 2009)
I know this has nothing to do with anesthesia, but only slightly less so than "I love scotch"
So I'm looking for a new computer, and contemplating switching to Windows from Mac. The money is really the thing here. I know that all the "you can get the exact same computer for $400 instead of $2000" is bs. I know that to some extent you get what you pay for. But I'm really not in a position to pay $1200 for a computer and I can find what I need for about $600.
So, has anyone ever switched from Mac...

He stole my bike! Rants and Raves - Off Topic
(24 Jun 2009)
Well not really...sry I just have to complain somewhere.
I live in Vancouver and a lot of people bike to work, so I also decided to start biking to work as well. Exercise, beating traffic, help the environment etc. etc. Today was my first day and it was fun. I came to my bike rack to find to my dismay that my bike was too big to lock the front wheel and the frame. Oh well there are a lot of other nice looking bikes here I thought. So I locked up the frame and the front wheel was snuggly inside t...

something i just noticed - Off Topic
(14 May 2009)
Do you guys remember watching Pokemon when you were little, and you saw in the first episode that Ash got hit by Lightning on his Bike when he got to his house? If you look closely at every new series, every new character has a bike, and guess what happens? First episode of every series, Pikachu Shocks the bike...
Also, it seems like in every new series the new character is MEANT to be a girl... but why? It puzzles me...
I was wondering if you guys thought of this and want to hear what you guys...

[Off-Topic] Must Eat Food in Malaysia?:
(24 Jun 2009)
Yes, I know, there are much better places to ask this question, but since I noticed we have at least a couple prominent posters based in Malaysia in the Sigma forum and almost all of the posters here are pretty passionate about what they do, that it would be worthwhile to elicit some opinions.
In about a week, I'm heading off for a two-week tour of peninsular Malaysia. The tour will be hitting Kuala Lumpur, Malaka, Taman Negara, the Perhentians, and a homestay outside of Kuala Kangsar.
So ... wh...

Slightly off topic: The Importance of Enlightenment
(25 Jun 2009)
This article started out in life as a response in an unlikely discussion of enlightenment on Jay Hansen's "Killer Ape Peak Oil" Yahoo group. Jay is a firm believer in scientism, so that explains the tone of the article.
The Importance of Enlightenment
I'm going to muse a bit about why I think personal enlightenment is an important, perhaps even crucial, response to the crisis of civilization.
Here are my assumptions:
What we face is a predicament, not a problem. Problems have solutions, predicam...

Off Topic: ACM and maneuvers
(28 Apr 2009)
Ok, I have been having some heated debates on various in flight maneuvers when in and I would like your opinions and thoughts please. I am finding more often than not that people "believe" that the super maneuverability of the latest canard flankers, thrust vectoring, etc gives planes an edge in combat. I tend to disagree, with exception. Let me please explain.
In ACM, and jet combat in general, life is speed. Keeping your energy high and keeping altitude under your wings is almost always more i...
