'should a change in subject matter be changed as a cure for bad poetry'
(05 Jul 2009)
FTB and I began a disagreement here . Here's my rebuttal (sorry, I'm a big philosophy nerd, and I love debate; this isn't meant to be a bicker-fest--just a nice, friendly debate):
Wow, I couldn't disagree more.
My point is simply that there is no such thing as good poetry and bad poetry unanimously (just like there's no such thing as good music and bad music). So yes, I suppose I was wrong in dichotomizing criticism into two forms--constructive and bad; I did so tentatively and under the impre...

Under My Skin - The Saturn Room - Short Stories - Ink From The Soul ~ Poetry...
(12 May 2009)
Here is my second story, but my first original, and hopefully not my last. Enjoy!
She was having that dream again. She could tell what would happen, always, but she would be powerless to stop it. She would have to see all the horrors like a movie on repeat. It would start the same way-- she'd be walking down the sidewalk, then out of nowhere she'd be surrounded by six scary-looking guys. They would start to harass her, push her around. One would pull out a wicked looking knife. Then... she start...

i'd like to share a sample of my poetry- opinions appreciated
(16 Jun 2009)
i wrote this before i had my babies during a long phase of unemployment and subsequent depression
another day unemployed
the morning dies
and im sucked into stagnant reality
departing from nightmares
to enter the day
confronted by memories
of seraquil sleep
(the uneasy passing of hunger)
what possibilities lie in wait?
they've become obscure
lost on the playground
of my idle hands
which move to satisfy the lust
which has turned to bordom
like dreams to dust
another day unemployed

What do you call poetry?
(14 May 2009)
So, I've been digging around the site, posted a couple of poems myself and have read a lot of fine work by different writers. After reading a bunch of different styles and critiques, here's what I wonder...
What do you call poetry? I see some people are highly stuck on having perfect iambics. Some people seem to have a need to see a set structure. Some people like free verse, others don't care for it.
I'm just fishing for opinions. For me, personally, I just like things that aren't clumsy (not s...

I hope you have fun with this:-
Despite what many might think, The Art of Poetry is well known across hundreds of nations all over the world. The Art of Poetry has been around for several centuries and has a very important meaning in the lives of many. Bad Poetry Call-Out
(02 Jul 2009)
It's come to my attention that people aren't allowed to say what they REALLY think about a certain author's poetry or poems. Whether it be in a creative writing class, in the Georgia Review editing room, and in most places on the internet (without getting banned of course).
This is why I tend to avoid the poetry thread. If I said what I really thought, I'd get banned.
So let me ask you this, why are so many people afraid of letting people call out what is obviously terrible poetry?
They all say...

Mark Robinson Poetry Journal Pages?
(02 Jul 2009)
Found some poems the other day. They had been torn out of a journal. They were all initialled M.R. I think it may belong to Robbo. Not sure. I wonder if any other Big Footy Members have found similar poems. I was moved by this example:
I wonder if this weekend
We will see the real top big players of the game
Kicking goals to make their teams press on harder to
Go forward to the future.
The Buddy Franklin's, I mean he is the sort of super
Player we have come to expect to play
The big games for th...

The Thirteenth Step
The cooker came by
He wanted money
I told him I didn't have any
Then he shot me.
I woke up in Intensive Care
and my head was full of jelly
not the donut kind
the kind from years of
drug use
and complacency.
I thought I died
but there was some purpose
to my rotten life
or so it seems.
I went into a coma
for several weeks
and when I came out
I was a new man.
I was on a different level
of asshole
then before
but I was a nicer one.
People respected me
People feared me
People obse...
