Dealing with Latency in Networked Games

I'm thinking about making a networked game. I'm a little new to this, and have already run into a lot of issues trying to put together a good plan for dead reckoning and network latency, so I'd love to see some good literature on the topic. I'll describe the methods I've considered.

As i understood, latency also computes the players framerate , not only round trip time .
What do you think about?
Are there any materials in net describing the difference between latency and ping?
There are so many points of view, it would be nice to get any "competent" info.

Do latency and PC affect Destro performance that much?

Theres a new destro lock in my guild who is (mostly) kicking my butt on the meters. We have the same full destro spec and a similar level of gear, I think I may even have him by 100 SP or so (no idea on haste/crit). He has some Ulduar off-pieces, but I have 3 T8.5. He has the 1850 rated Furious blade (+32 SP gem), but Turning Tide is no slouch. The only other difference I can think is that he has IDS, and I am still stuck with Sundial. Zero Latency Monitoring on 003 Rack+

I'm thinking about buying the 003 Rack+ and was wondering if it has zero latency monitoring.
I looked at the specs and didn't find anything and I also searched the forum looking for this answer.

Digidesign Mbox 2 + spdif latency problem?

Hi guys,
I'm thinking about changing my great RME Fireface800 card because I need to start using Protools.
What I would like to do is use the Mbox 2 card. This one: http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?...29&itemid=4893
This will be my connections:
My SSL preamp output spdif
Input spdif of the Mbox 2
to my laptop
I'll use this card only to pass my SSL signal to protools. But I've heard about latency problems during monitoring. Is this true? Otherwhise how can I do to not loose my pro studio quali...

Yes, but in my case portability is not a major concern, just an added
extra. My thoughts were more along the lines that for a multi-I/O
interface in most cases you'll have some sort of bigger breakout box
anyway, so why not just move it completely to an external box that's
connected via USB or Firewire.

Well, it's been a learning experience. :| I don't think you'll be losing all that much noticeable performance with the memory you got, unless you are an extreme gamer or a copmpetitive benchmarker. However, I do recommend buying online. More selection - as you have discovered - and lower prices - which you will discover if you do it. I used Skinman and Knobman to try to make it look reasonably nice, but that's not really my main concern. I'm not that interested in GUI comments (unless its an offer to make a better one for me!) as I've spent longer on it than I wanted to already... but I would be interested in your opinions on the sound. Due to the large request for a program that fixes the TCPIP driver ack response time, I decided to develop a little program that does all the work in just 1 click.
The program (named wowAcker after the ACK flag), configures your windows so that ack responses are sent faster which drastically improves your upload.

RAM Upgrade Info/ Help

I currently have Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz 5.5.5.15 2T, 2GB and an XFX 780i motherboard. Considering how cheap RAM has become I was thinking about upgrading the RAM and was curious your all your opinion which would be the best; and if it would really be worth it - would I see a difference in gaming?
From what I can tell my mobo goes up to 1200Mhz. Would I really see much of a difference with 120Mhz jump (such as Newegg LINK ? Or would I see more of a difference if I got the 1000Mhz 4.5.4.12 late...
