What do you guys think about this idea? (keep political opinions to yourself...
(01 May 2009)
Without venturing into the debate on whether or not people should be able to own any type of gun (we've had that debate before and it always gets ugly), I have an idea that I'd like your guys opinions on.
This relates to mandatory voting and tieing it into exercising your freedoms (as in the 2nd amendment).
It has been asserted that the right to bear arms should cover all types of guns and the reason for this is to (somehow?) prevent a possible tyrannical rule. So if the right to bear arms is ne...

Would You Be in Favor of Prosecuting a Democratic President for Torture?
(07 May 2009)
Bill Clinton began the outsourced torture (extraordinary rendition) program ; The Republicans have now threatened Holder with investigating his own role in it. It's also been alleged that LBJ might have known about the CIA being involved in torture and killings as well.
Would you be in favor of prosecuting Democrats for torture-by-proxy? Or is that going too far?
Poll result (89 votes) Yes. Torture is wrong, period. (83 votes, 93%) Vote Maybe; I'd need more information. (1 votes, 1%) Vote No, Ou...

The Democratic Party is a Coalition Party.
(23 Jun 2009)
Unlike our opposition, conformity and uniformity of thought and views have never defined Democrats, and never will. It is our diversity that makes us strong, that allows to pull ideas and support from various different bases, and present a dynamic and functional policy, instead of the reactionary nonsense that is all too often spouted by the GOP. Paradoxically, diversity is also our weakness, as we descend all too easily into intra-party squabbles whenever there is not a strong focusing force to...

how to get out of the democratic party in Hawaii?

how to get out of the democratic party in Hawaii?
OK I joined the democratic party of hawaii to vote for obama instead of hillary because I can't stand the b*tch.
Now I don't know how to get out of the party - I guess I'll check the website or call them. I get sick just thinking about being a part of ANY party - but especially the Hawaii democratic party. Colleen Hanabusa, Calvin Say - ick - I'd rather eat broken glass than even have the most remote connection to some of these bags of scum.

Thinking about the American Revolution: James Madison
(08 Jul 2009)
Thinking about the American Revolution: James Madison
To cherish peace and friendly intercourse with all nations having correspondent dispositions; to maintain sincere neutrality toward belligerent nations; to prefer in all cases amicable discussion and reasonable accommodation of differences to a decision of them by an appeal to arms; to exclude foreign intrigues and foreign partialities, so degrading to all countries and so baneful to free ones; to foster a spirit of independence too just to...

Greider: Be Willing To Destabilize The Party
Journalist and author William Greider is urging the labor movement and other progressives to get tough with the Democratic Party, even if that means putting the party's majority control in the House and Senate at risk.

What Do You Think About Socialized Health Care?
(21 Apr 2009)
Since the US might be heading that way, I'm interested in what everyone thinks. Plus, since Spiffy has many members that come from countries that already have socialized health care, I'm interested in how they feel it's worked/failed for them.

Regarding the United States Federal Government
"I believe in only one thing: liberty; but I do not believe in liberty enough to want to force it upon anyone."
- H.L. Mencken
Liberty. Your liberty is our goal; governmental form is simply a method to protect it. Non-Aggression. We oppose the initiation of force, or the threat of such force, to solve problems either domestically or abroad. We hold that a peaceful s...

Violence escalating in Tehran. - Rants & Opinions - General Discussion
(19 Jun 2009)
Thanks to the great control over the media exercized by the Iranian authority, details as to the ongoing protests have been sketchy, though pictures and video footage has leaked to western reporters and websites alike, giving the world a glimpse as to what was taking place in Tehran, the capital of Iran, in response to the last election.
As most of you know by now, there is great criticism of the electoral process, and as such, the results of the latest election which, officially, have allowed A...
