Justify a salary increase, is it worth it?
(20 Apr 2009)
OK this is what is going on at my job and I wanted to share this discussion and get feedbacks on it.
I have a few coworkers; Michelle and Rosie who I work with in the medical field.
Michelle has been the office manager for a three-physician practice for the past 2 years, Rosie, one of five medical assistants, has worked for the practice 5 years. She is very professional, can be depended on to perform her responsibilities, and is well liked by the patients. Recently, a friend of hers who works in...

Super Idea: Salary Cap Alternative
(09 Jun 2009)
So, I was thinking about salary caps, because too many people bitch and moan about it to me all the time, and I understand the sentiment, but the idea still seems wrong to me
I think some payroll disparity is good for baseball (but 200 mil to 30 mil is too much, which is just as much the fault of the 30 mil team), as it allows teams to spend if they are serious and use their earned income, and it also sets up a big bad evil team vs. cinderella dynamic that draws lots of attention. So I was think...

Comparing salary increase to real estate price increase?
(15 Apr 2009)
Does it make sense?
I'm looking at a house in Port Moody that sold in 2000 for 370K. Today the asking price is 699K. That's 89% increase.
I'm looking at my salary in 2000 and my salary today and it has increased only 38%.
Am I the only one left here whose salary didn't increase 89%? Or there is still room for the house to go down?
Any opinions?
Thank you.

Proposal: Salary Dumps for Picks
(06 Jun 2009)
It has been suggested in many threads that the Leafs should take advantage of the cap situation, and take on contracts from teams that need cap space, or are struggling financially, in exchange for draft picks.
After thinking about this, and doing some looking around, here are my top 5 targets:
1. Nylander - Washington:
35 years old - cap hit 4.87M for one more year
Could get a prospect like Carlson or a 2nd round pick?
2. Aaron Ward - Boston:
35 years old - cap hit of 2.5M for one more year
Cou...

Vote on salary structures
(01 May 2009)
I'm proposing we have two salary structure options:
1) You pay 20% of the salary as bonus money. This would result in a 20% discount on your payroll, but with the danger of penalties if you try to move the player. If a player left your roster for any reason other than the end of his contract, you all the prorated bonus money would roll up into the current year. Deferred penalties for an in-season cut stay the same.
2) You pay the salary in full. This allows you to move the player at will, but yo...

Salary Expectation in HK for Web Developer?
(22 Apr 2009)
Hi,
I'm thinking about moving to Hong Kong (currently living in Sydney, Australia on a sponsorship visa) and have seen a number of job advertisements for Web designer/Developers in HK but they are all asking to submit your salary expectations in your application. I have a number of friends in HK but they are all in Teaching or other industries and so are unable to help me figure out what a reasonable salary would be to ask for, for a web designer with 5+ years of experience. If anyone can give m...

What if you got the job offer, but the salary offer was way lower than deserved...
(17 Apr 2009)
This is my situation now. Positive feedback, great interview, get the call with "we'd like to offer you the position" and the starting salary is xx. Well, the starting salary is significantly lower than what I had my sites on. Not just that- it's well worth the salary with the significant increase in responsibility and more time and effort that will put forth. I did salary comparisons and talked to people in that field as well- including my boss who is 100% with me and said he wouldn't take the...

Bank seized salary
(02 Jun 2009)
Hi,
When I was made bankrupt (01/05/2008) I had a bank account that was overdrawn by about £3500.
The account was closed by the bank and the debt included in the bankruptcy.
I'm now discharged and my employers have mistakenly paid my salary into the closed account.
On contacting the bank I was informed that they had seized the payment to pay off the overdraft on the account.
I explained that the account was included in the bankruptcy and that they had no right to seize the payment but all I coul...
