Thinking about buying a telephoto lens.

Hey folks. I am considering purchasing a new lens to extend my focal range as I currently have nothing longer than 55mm. The lenses I am considering (based on budget and need) are: 85 f/1.8 135 f/2 70-200 f/4 IS Most of my shooting is done outside is reasonably good light and my inside shooting is done with my nifty or 17-55. Occasionly I shoot some sports in secondary school gym with relatively poor lighting (have to use ISO 1600/3200 f/2.8, so I can barely get by).

Macro Lens vs Lens Reversal and other Techniques:

A while ago I asked a question about the use of Macro lens ( http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=31163017 ). I now have another question.
I researched the Nikkor 105, Sigma 105 and 150, and the Tamron 90 and it appears that in all cases when it comes to taking Macro pictures (1:1 or greater) one has to resort to manual focus. With the Nikkor 105 the VR is also quite useless for Macro.

Want opinions on best 2nd lens for D90...:

I have just ordered my D90 with 18-105VR today and want some user opinions on which of the 2 lenses I want next would be the better choice first - 50mm f1.8 or 55-200VR. Tell me why you think your choice is better. Is 200mm really that much more reach than 105 or can I get by with the 105 for now. Is a faster lens like the 50mm going to be a bigger benefit right now than the greater telephoto?
As a secondary question, has anyone used the 50mm f1.8 for taking dance recital pictures at 25 - 40 fee...

Ladies...
I have 3 lenses I'd like to purchase:
- the 50mm 1.4
- the 85mm 1.8
- the 24-70mm 2.8
I know that many of you have all three. Could you offer your opinions on what may be your favorite, your most used, which you would purchase first?
I'd love the 50mm for inside and some outside shots. I have read of some distortions with it. The 85mm would be great for outside. I shoot alot of both with the kids. However, I'm leaning toward the 24-70 for more versatility. I would like a new lens for t...

Thinking about ditching 5DMII for 1DsMII, Need Opinion:

So this is where I am. I got the 5D Mark II a couple months back for 2300 with grip. I have been happy with it for the most part, but there are some things that kind of bug me. I like the low noise at 1600 and 3200 and the video is a nice touch to mess around with. The screen is very purtty too.
What I don't like is the AF. When I shoot in low light, which is a lot, the thing hunts. I use a 50 1.4 most of the time and it isn't the slowest lens out there, but not the fastest. I just drives me cra...

Hi guys,
I'm looking for a bit of advice from the group.
I've been very happy with my 40D and 28-135 lens but I've been keeping an eye out on the L lenses in the hopes of upgrading.
I think that I can get a 17-40mm L for a pretty fair price but I'm a bit concerned about the overall range. Since I'm on a crop factor I'm excited about going to 17mm as it would widen things considerably and allow me to take group photos more easily.
Sadly, I'd lose out on a large postion of the zoom. I'm also guess...

Your walkaround lens...

Ok I am looking for opinions on walk around lenses. This means the type of lens that you have mostly on your camera and is the most versatile.
Since I cannot afford a Nikon 17-50mm 2.8 lens, I was looking at the Tamron version of this lens. I have the kit lens (18-105mm) but I find myself rarely shooting at 105mm and for that my sigma is better. I could happily live with up to 50mm only.
What are you using and what is the price/performance ration on those lenses?
NOTE: I have a Nikon cam.

i currently have a canon xti with the kit 18-55mm lens and i have since purchased the 70-300mm f4.5-5.6 and 50mm f1.4 lenses.
most of the work i am doing is shooting in low light settings at live music concerts but i also do a lot of street photography and travel photos - landscapes, sunsets, etc.
i'm thinking about either upgrading the body, or purchasing a new lens.
the lenses i have been looking at are the 17-40mm f4L and the 17-85mm f4-5.6 to upgrade the kit lens.

Seeking Opinions and Advice on Appropriate Wildlife Lens

I'm basically an amature wildlife photographer who has been trying to shoot wildlife at distances up to 250 yards and more with a Nikon 300D coupled to a Nikon 70-300 3.5-5.6 ED VR. This lens of course has it's limitations and I'm considering a serious glass upgrade.
