Comparing the USCF to the Situation in Iran
(22 Jun 2009)
On Mon, 22 Jun 2009 05:09:38 -0700 (PDT), samsloan <samhsloan@gmail.com
What do you think about what is going in Iran as compared to what is
going on with the United States Chess Federation here?
Goichberg is the Ayatollah Khamenei of the USCF and John K. Hillery is
a member of Goichberg's Guardian Council.
Todd Miller a/k/a Oldtimer is the people rioting in the streets while
the militiamen a/k/a The Moderators are trying to shoot them down.

Brian,
It may in fact be accurate that these lawsuits are costing the USCF
money. I do not doubt that. However the article fails to meet most
journalistic standards on non bias and accurate reporting.

The injunction to avoid conflicts of interest means that a reporter
must maintain independence from sources. In reality, however, news-

Re: Major Victory for USCF in Illinois

I find it amusing that the Sloon deprecated the dismissal of his most
recent nut case on procedural grounds (arguing that the court should
have addressed the "merits" of his argument despite what the law
said), yet he now trumpets a purely procedural ruling in the Illinois
case as a great victory. Of course, his comments suggest that he
hasn't actually read the decision, or else just didn't understand it.
What the judge...

World Open 2009

Who is going to this?
I have not played a USCF game in 3 years due to a catastrophic meltdown in the 2006 world open. Its still painful to think about.

Should the USCF Appeal the Texas Ruling?
(03 May 2009)
I feel that the USCF should at least consider appealing the decisions
by Judge Cummings last week in Texas.
This in itself is a complex legal question. An appeal can only be
taken from a "final order".
I believe that the decisions denying motions to dismiss for failure to
state a claim are final orders and can therefore be appealed.
The real question to consider is the alternatives: What is the chance
for success of an appeal? How much will it cost. How long will it
take? If there is no appeal,...

USCF and Auditing Procedures
(15 Apr 2009)
My wife is an accounting major in her final semester before earning
her BS in accounting. Yet, she does not know anything about
accounting, although I suspect that she knows more about it than Allen
Priest does.
One of her textbooks is filled with examples of auditors who made
fairly simple oversights and lost their licenses or even went to jail.
One of the questions we in the USCF are debating is the $100,000 in
imaginary money plus the fact that there has been no appraisal of the
Crossville la...

BILL GOICHBERG'S CAMPAIGN STATEMENT - USCF EB
(05 Jun 2009)
Dear USCF member:
It has been my privilege to serve as your President since August 2005.
The Executive Board will select a new President this August, as there
is a four year term limit.
USCF has seen many changes since 2005. Our website now has interesting
chess news and games, not just ratings and technical info. Chess Life
has been modernized and upgraded, and a scholastic magazine again
offered (Chess Life for Kids, better than the old School Mates.) Adult
dues have been lowered, new nation...

OPINION
JEANNE E. SCOTT, U.S. District Judge:
This matter is before the Court on Plaintiff United States of America
Chess Federation, Inc.’s (the USCF) Motion to Remand (d/e 4). In
February 2009, the USCF filed a two-count Complaint in Sangamon County,
Illinois Circuit Court, seeking a court order removing Defendants Susan
Polgar and Hoainhan Truong from the USCF Executive Board pursuant to §
108.35(d) of the Illinois Ge...
