How do submarines float at a fixed depth?
(01 Jun 2009)
Goscience asked the Naked Scientists:
Dear N.S.
The other day on a walk by San Francisco Bay I was watching boats and thinking about floating and sinking and what keeps a boat afloat.
It is easy to understand that something will float if the water it displaces weighs more than the weight of the object.
If it weighs less it floats; if it weighs more it sinks.
Now here's where my question comes in.
Since liquids are only slightly compressible (unless this changes at very high pressur...

Newbie: Need opinions on depth finder
(08 Jun 2009)
I am new to iboats so hello everyone.
I would like to have everyone's opinion.
I am having problems with my factory installed depth finder. I understand that a lot of people have had trouble with them in Cobalts.
Should I try and go through the trouble of having it repaired or should I have an aftermarket depth/fishfinder or even a low end gps installed?
Thanks in advance for you opinions.

Lack of Depth
(04 May 2009)
I was preparing to do a "CAA FORECAST" starting with William & Mary, and I noticed a number of their opponents are an injury away from a .500 or worse season, which got me to thinking about team depth in FCS.
How do you feel about your team's depth. Do you share the opinion that your team may be an injury away from a .500 or worse season. Or is your team on the opposite side of the coin where you have an abundance of depth.
As for Nova, I'm of the opinion their pretty strong with their starting...

Next Season: Hossa vs. Depth//Merged
(15 May 2009)
With the way our depth stepped up tonight, the question that has been raised on here a thousand times, just got a little more interesting Should they, or shouldn't they resign hossa? Do I need to explain this any further? Opinions anyone?

In-Depth Game Design: So You Wanna Fix the Fighter?
(08 Jun 2009)
So you want to make Fighters work. You may or may not like ToB, this is really rather irrelevant. ToB doesn't fix everything, and moreover there are actually legitimate reasons to dislike it (though, unfortunately, many of the people complaining are generally giving illegitimate reasons). There are some things you need to think about if you don't want to just end up with yet another "fighter fix" that will get harshly criticized on the board for a few days, pass to the second page, and then neve...

Depths
(23 May 2009)
I can't make up my mind
and this indecision's killing me
been staring at my wall and my ceiling
thinking about what I'll say
and will it be today
or will I just let this chance go
You're leading me on
and turning me off
I can't find the will to go through.
Your sinister plan
has caught me off guard
lost in the depths of you.
Up late at night,
can't seem to sleep
of late I've been thinking too much
I can't let you go,
but can't make you mine
think I might be
runnning out of time.
You're driving m...

depth for an oscar tank
(26 Jun 2009)
So I want an Oscar and was thinking about throwing one in a 48"x 30"x 17" tank. I know it is weird dimensions but you work with what you got. I am not worried about the length or width housing one for many years. Especially since I like to buy small fish and grow them out, but would 17" depth be enough for a 12"+ fish. I keep going back and forth on this in my head so I am looking for some advise from you all. How tall is a 12"+ Oscar?
