Thinking about switching to O2 broadband

After suffering with BT broadband for a year and a bit, I have decided that enough is enough, and I'm looking for an ISP that does not traffic shape.
Top of my list is O2 at the moment, however, I don't live in their coverage area, so I'll be using their Home Access product.
Looking at reviews online, it looks like they have some congestion issues as well.
Does anyone have any knowledge of O2 broadband? How would you rate the connection speed at peak periods?

I have TalkTalk now, and I can get out of my contract this week. Usually it works as promised, with dowload speeds of about 7MBit which isn't quite the 8 advertized, but is okay.
That said, every couple of months (or more sometimes) it goes wonky for a night or two, and I get absolutely terrible speeds with dropped connections (really great when you are in a major online backgammon tournament match). I think it's a problem with the lines, but BT never got it sorted and neither has TalkTalk.

well there is a higher connection speeds but

Sony VAIO repairs - your opinions please - Broadband

OK so the wife's VAIO (SZ2GP) is about 4 years old. The battery died last night and the cooling van sounds like my AMG's V8. I suspect its also on its way out.
A new battery costs around R2k, and the fan job probably another R1.5K, totalling R3.5K.
A new VAIO would set her back between R16 & R23K (model dependent), and times are tough. Should I spend the R3.5K on the repairs to "resurrect" a 4 year old machine or should I look around for other less expensive notebook brands than Sony. Or should...

Hello!
My PC is 2nd hand and I've had it 5 years... Its already had more memory added and most of the programs wiped and it barely loads internet pages anymore.
I was thinking about one of the packages where you pay a monthly charge and get a laptop thrown in. Has anyone used one of these and are they worth the money?
My homephone is with Talk Talk. I pay £10 for the Broadband because it is a small, rural exchange. I pay about £20 for the phone and all calls except to mobiles.

Hey, I've been trying to work out which provider my parents should switch to - they currently have a BT landline and BT broadband, for which they are being ripped off - the broadband is £30 a month on top of line rental at around £30 a month too - the actual charge for phone calls this month only came to £16 so I think it's about time they got around to changing.
