Opinions please: Valid reasons for switching rites, or complaining and self...
(17 Apr 2009)
Hello All,
What, in your opinions, constitute valid reasons for switching rites? I must admit that over the past year or so I have been feeling increasingly isolated from the Roman Catholic ways, and talks with Dominican priests and brothers, an RCIA director, and fellow laypeople have not done much except to further focus my attention on the great spiritual hole that seems to have developed within me, despite my desperate attempts to maintain the idea that everyone goes through periods of low f...

Marrying at a presbyterian church
(13 May 2009)
I wanted to get your opinion on something as a fellow Christians about getting married in a church. I guess I am doing some soul searching. My fiance and I are on our ways to be members at a Presbyterian church. It's been nice so far and they have a choir that we have been singing in too. The only problem I have is how much they are charging us to get married there, even as members. There is a $300 church fee, plus $350 for the organist, $200 for the wedding coordinator, plus honorarium for the...

Need obgyn
(29 Apr 2009)
I am five weeks pregnant and need a obgyn and a hospital. I was thinking about using Plano Presbyterian or Frisco Baylor. Did anyone have their babies at either hospital or could suggest another hospital close to Lewisville? If so, please comment. I am also looking for an obgyn. I will need a ciscerean and am older so this may be a high risk pregnancy. Any suggestions? thanks!

some good fly fishing quotes...
(20 May 2009)
was looking for a new sig line and found these....pretty good stuff for the fly fishermen...
"I look into ... my fly box, and think about all the elements I should consider in choosing the perfect fly: water temperature, what stage of development the bugs are in, what the fish are eating right now. Then I remember what a guide told me: 'Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown and fuzzy and about five-eighths of an inch long.'"
"To ask certain questions is to answer them. The answer to 'Shou...

Would it be wrong to encourage a Roman Catholic priest who left the Church...
(06 Jun 2009)
I was talking my teacher (Presbyterian) one day who asked me about Orthodox christianity. The conversation started because one student did a presentation on Isaac Newton who, was said to be a heretic at his time in England. This was because he was Orthodox, not Roman Catholic or Anglican. When she asked about it I said that he was Catholic he just was not Roman Catholic. I told her that now the Orthodox and Roman Churches are very close now and also the Anglicans to a degree, after the advent of...

Shroud of Turin documentary
(30 Jun 2009)
Quote: : "However, I am about as down on the 'organization' of what is known as the church as I suspect that Jesus would be if he could witness it. Any supposed proof would only reinforce this corporate, judgmental, militaristic, exclusive, brain washing, money sucking fiasco known as the Christian church. If Jesus was anything, he was as anti religous, anti Judaic laws, anti authority, anti military as one can get (and he NEVER personally said or did anything indicative of starting a church!)....

Is Protestantism a Christianity? - Campus
(09 Jun 2009)
I see much more of a continuity between Catholic and Orthodox churches with earliest expressions of Christian faith than Protestant denominations (bar Anglican and high ecclesial forms of Lutheranism and Presbyterianism). Though I don't think that invalidates Protestantism, I simply think that it evolved out of other needs and other myths.
The Eucharist has always been the symbol of Christian identity, filled with its rich atonement and sacrificial motifs. Though, in some Protestant churches it...

New here: Good To Know You
(24 May 2009)
Hello new friends,
I've been in Colorado since 1991, but grew up in Central California (Fresno), where my father was pastor at a Presbyterian Church. I left the church in 1982 in the midst of an unfortunate scandal with my father and the church secretary at the center, which resulted in the breakup of my family as well as even more devastating events (which would be better left for another post, I suspect).
Since I was a small child, however, I have had a very "real," intimate -- one would almos...
