1. Can I get ready for Prelim riding 4 days a week?   (16 Jun 2009)
I'm really thinking about Champagne Run. It would be my second prelim and my horse's third. Our first prelim together was at the end of March. He is boarded an hour away and as of right now I can only get there 4 days a week. Is it possible to get him fit enough to safely compete in a July event riding 4 days a week? I can ride him for as long as I want on these 4 days, but I just can't afford to drive any more than I already do, unless I get more work. I currently ride and train at least 6 hors...

2. Galloping Speed: Training vs. Prelim   (10 Jun 2009)
We're working on getting ready for the move from training to prelim and everything seems right about the timing (i.e., the jumps look small; my girl is experienced at that level; last season all 5 HTs finished on our dressage score; 8 wins, two 2ds and a 5th in last 11 HTs at training, my wife said I can , etc.). The reason I mention this is to establish that all things being equal, I can't imagine being more ready. So, here's my question: We try and run our training courses at about 485 - 500 m...

3. Pros & Cons of a Prelim in Surgery, instead of Internal Medicine..   (21 May 2009)
hey guys, whats your opinion on this? I am undecided. I thought about the surgery prelim as a good background that can help me for when I do interventional radiology. Managing the surgical patient, venous cutdown, etc etc.

4. Older craftsman w/bad 16hp Kohler... looking for opinions on what's broke...   (04 Jun 2009)
I looked at an older craftsman today, forgot to take down the model number, but looks to be an early- to mid- 90's model with a 16hp vert. Kohler. I'm thinking to buy it to repair, but not sure if I want to go down that road if it's a bad /broke con rod... As the owner tells it, the mower was just started (i.e.; cold start) and was being driven off a trailer when there was a loud bang, puff of black smoke from the exhaust and it stopped running. On trying to restart, the engine turned over (cran...

5. ? re reapplying   (28 May 2009)
hey all. so i matched advanced neuro and still at this point no med prelim, so hoping for best, still searching trying, but preparing for the worse...just in case. anyhow, was wondering, for anyone that maybe had to go through this, as for the LORs...im not sure it will be possible for me to re-contact the docs who wrote them for me, and get them updated and signed in blue ink again. i do have copies of ones that were sent in for last season, and will most likely have to reuse those. any opinion...

6. Need a new jumping saddle...   (13 May 2009)
I'm looking for a new jumping saddle, as right now I have the Crosby Sofride. It's been great but the flaps aren't forward enough for prelim+, so my saddle fitter told me to look at the devoucoux (used). I've heard some nasty stories about the way that devoucouxs fit horses... so i've been thinking about the L'apogee or Antares monoflap. My horse has high withers and a huge shoulder. Any opinions?

7. Too many shows?   (10 Apr 2009)
The other thread got me thinking about letdowns. I have always said that my horse will get one FULL month off a year (just turnout) with a slow return to work (over the course of two months if the horse has been on turnout the whole time). I thought this was just good practice that most people did, but more and more I see that this is not the case. They may get a let-down from showing, but how many horses truly get fully let down? I am always amazed at what I see. The first week is no change, bu...

8. Preliminary Exams   (22 Jun 2009)
Hi all I have 5 years experience as a Legal Exc and half my Law degree which I am thinking about not finishing now and just doing the Prelims and then straight into Fe1s the being if I ever get them! Basically wondering does anyone know anything about them or is there a manual you can study for them I know there is certain parts of it that you just need to keep an eye on the new papers and that for. Has anyone taken them and are the hard? Any assistance in this regard would be apreciated.

9. Tell me the stories about you and your horse as you moved up thru the levels...   (04 Jun 2009)
This coming from a person who had never evented (although I'd ridden my whole life), got her horse as a 6 year old who had never jumped a thing in his life, and thought hey, I want to event and this horse could make a nice Novice horse. Anyway, that was 3 1/2 years ago and now we're sailing thru Training level and thinking about Prelim. This seems wierd to me as I always thought of him as a Novice horse who could maybe do Training and up until last year I had never really thought about Prelim. B...

10. Think I have found another!   (19 Apr 2009)
Hi, if you have read any of my previous posts, you will know that I am a novice Mother returning to riding looking for a first horse as a mother/daughter share. It is a difficult horse/pony to find! I found a 15h gorgeous girl a couple of months ago - a SJ, but quiet, calm and stead. Unfortunately, owner decided to give out locally on loan. I decision I can totally understand. I think I have now found another! Welsh Sec D - 14.2 good allrounder. Just wondering what you think about 5' 6" 10.5 sto...
