Italy to Declare Independence from US Military
(01 Jul 2009)
Do they have a fourth of July in Italy? That's not a trick question. This July 4th, Italians plan to gather in Vicenza to take nonviolent action aimed at freeing Italy from U.S. occupation and opposing the proposed construction of an enormous new U.S. military base in a town already swarming with U.S. troops stationed at existing bases. For years now, a major campaign organized by local residents has resisted the construction of the new base. The history of this campaign is chronicled in English...

Obama, Bernanke say economy is improving
(15 Apr 2009)
Quote: : President Obama said Tuesday that recent stimulus measures "are starting to generate signs of economic progress," but more tough times are ahead.
The White House described Obama's speech as a major address on the economy.
"The Recovery Act, the bank capitalization program, the housing plan, the strengthening of the nonbank credit market, the auto plan and our work at the [Group of 20 summit] have been necessary pieces of the recovery puzzle," Obama said in a speech at Georgetown Univers...

(27 Apr 2009)
The first 100 Days of the Obama Presidency have been such a relief from the oppressive, criminal regime of the Bush administration that has shamed America and weakened us in the eyes of the world. No one can credibly deny this, and why would they?
But as with any human being, even ones destined for some kind of greatness, the reality of political execution is always, always some mixture of good and bad (where good and bad is defined as, "things you agree with and things you don't agree with." Bu...

Iran's election result proves President Obama's formula in the Middle East is not working
By Michael Rubin
Sunday, June 14th 2009, 5:39 PM
On June 4, President Barack Obama declared, "I've come here to Cairo to seek a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world." Awed by Obama's rhetoric, many commentators - blogger Juan Cole and MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann, for example - suggested that an "Obama Effect" could usher...

Obama's first 100 days (The Master List)
(30 Apr 2009)
I've started a list of milestones of Obama's first 100 days. It's far from complete and I haven't had much time to update it. Please feel free to add anything I may have forgotten or missed so far. If you can, try to keep it "short & sweet" and include the date, and I'll add it to my master list. I'd like to start sending it out via email asap.

Obama lost to the Lobby. The war is not over.
(19 Apr 2009)
The War May Not Be Over
There is a powerful lobby determined to prevent any view other than its own from being aired, still less to factor in American understanding of trends and events in the Middle East. The tactics of the Israel Lobby plumb the depths of dishonor and indecency and include character assassination, selective misquotation, the willful distortion of the record, the fabrication of falsehoods, and an utter disregard for the truth.

How FD Roosevelt prolonged the Great Depression
(19 Jun 2009)
That FDR, by some of his actions, prolonged the Great Depression, is almost an article of faith with many people, espescially on the Right.
So here is an economist who has specialised in the Great Depression giving a reasoned analysis of it. She agrees the some of FDR's policies did set America back and prolong the Depression - but the policies that did so are not the policies that are usually blamed for it. Note the citation of Milton Friedman:
"AT A recent congressional hearing I cautiously no...
