Faulty Rams&Blue Screen counting down to death of a machine.
(23 May 2009)
Shalom There, i am fixing someones PC,
It loads fine at first time, and then when working in middle of windows, the blue screen of death occures with a count down indicating that files are to be dumped from memory.
The PC reboots, then on several occasions it does the same thing with no clear boot into windows, it repeats this, sometimes It goes through showing memory errors.
It continues...
Then it makes bleeping noises and does not get through the bios.
My assumptions are that it is the RAM mo...

Saab Noob: Questions regarding headlights and faulty fuel gauge... and others...
(18 Jun 2009)
Hi,
I just bought an '03 Saab 9-3, 2.0T engine, 80k miles, stock condition. My previous performance car has been an '88 Toyota Supra Turbo (intake/exhaust, close to 300HP), so at some time this Saab will be modified ;-)
I was reading through the manual, and I had a couple of questions with the headlights:
1.) Does the Saab have separate daytime running lights, or is it the same as the headlights? The reason I ask is because it seems my headlights are on all the time, regardless of the position o...

What would YOU do - consumer rights and faulty goods?
(16 Jun 2009)
I'm just putting out feelers here to see what other CA readers would have done or would do in this situation.
In 2006 I bought a JVC Camcorder from Dixons Online. I bought it in June in time for an annual holiday but it didn't arrive until nearly three weeks later, well after we had gone on holiday. I contacted the Courier who stated they had returned it to Dixons after the usual seven days as we had not made arrangements to collect it.
Dixon's agreed to resend it however it was September before...

Oil filter experts please weigh in on faulty filter:
(05 May 2009)
Here's the story. I changed my oil recently on old reliable and found that the filter had a distinct rattle to it (think spray paint can). I had never heard anything like this and have probably used 100 of this particular filter. So, I emailed and they offered to diagnose if I sent it to them which I did.
The filter was cut apart with findings, "that the filter's element guide spring was upside down."
No, sort of indication as to if this would be detrimental to my car or not was given. Not that...

SPP 3.3 destroys iso 50 pictures from DP1, it is not the DP2 that is faulty...
(28 Apr 2009)
I could not find the best thread to attach this to:
I tried to compare the blown highlights discussion and reds in a single image and I chose a red rose. I was not aware that I chose an ISO50 picture from my dp1...
I was shocked! This is a 100% crop of the left corner, the reds are the same, the highlights are OK, BUT. The trees are completly destroyed by the new SPP3.3 (i am on a mac). Left is SPP3.3, right is SPP3.2
So, the DP2 discussion about Carl's first iso50 pictures (the washing things),...

ESPN Insider - Thinking about trading Jose Reyes
(25 May 2009)
Quote: The Mets are looking pretty good right now, but John Harper wondered last week about the Mets' next move , should they fail yet again to make the playoffs this year.
Reyes The myth the Mets have tried to sell everyone the last couple of years is that Jose Reyes is still young, that he'll stop making bonehead plays when he matures as a major leaguer. Only it's faulty logic any way you want to dissect it. For one thing, in baseball terms Reyes is not young at all anymore. He'll be 26 in a f...

What do you think about math/science education in the US?
(05 Jun 2009)
I think it is a complete failure. What they are teaching us is simply step by step procedures and basic memorization, which we all forget when the class is over. Mathematicians and scientists need to know how to work around problems and think abstractly, which they don't teach in school. I'm in college and it is so frustrating to know that I am wasting most of these years memorizing pointless shit which I am going to forget over the summer. And for the first two years you don't even learn anythi...

Chair/Desk Opinions and OS Decision
(30 May 2009)
Hello, I had a few setup questions and just want some opinions and suggestions. I use my computer for gaming mostly, watching videos, the internet in that order.
[1] First I'm looking for a nice chair and desk combo.
Chair: My current chair has no cushion left in it, simply uncomfortable. I did have a mesh chair I liked in the past.
Desk: My keyboard platform on my desk has gotten skin oil/dirt/water and whatnot into the plywood and it's wearing away the coating, as well as the back of the keybo...

Opinions before I buy MBP
(24 Jun 2009)
I have a 900 G3 iBook and it runs fine, but I feel it 's time to "move on up" to a 13" MBP. Of course the choice between the two (2.26 and 2.53) has been beat to death but here it goes again. If I was to purchase the 2.26 MBP I would upgrade the memory and probably the hard drive ( approx. 165.00 incl shipping and me doing the install).
Although I've been fine with the 40gig in the iBook.
That would bring the two books closer in specs, except of course the processor bump which is around 10%. so...
