And don't tell me to buy a Mac I know NOTHING about them at all!

Okay guys...im a complete noob when it comes to anything Apple and the wifey is thinking of buying me a new desktop...
i hear a lot of good things about apples...main use for me will be internet browsing and heavy photo editting...
any opinions on apples in general...i've been anti-apple for a long time but have grown tired of the problems windows xp and vista have...heres the model im looking at and some stats...

XPS M1330 and Nvidia GPU Issue - Did they ... I am thinking about buying ...

I am thinking about buying a new XPS M1330 with Nvidia card(can't be intel, must be Nvidia for me). But I have read so many reports on the GPU going out and the motherboard being replaced over and over(per a user). My question is, if I bought a new one would mine have this potential flaw or did they fix this iwith a re-design? Or is this issue not as big as it seems?

intel or AMD for HTPC?

Thinking about going either with an intel e5200 or an AMD 5050e ...
This is for a HTPC.
I think I want to go with an ASRock motherboard from newegg:

I am tempted to use my existing graphics card (ATI Radeon HD3650) unless the difference to the igp is only marginal.

Intel Core2 Duo E8600 vs. Intel Core2 Quad Q9550

Im thinking about upgrating my CPU, the once I've been viewing are
Intel Core2 Duo E8600 and Intel Core2 Quad Q9550 - Cost exacly the same where I live..
E8400 3.0GHz 1333MHz 6MB LGA775 CPU, SSE4, 45nm
Q9550 2.83GHz 1333MHz 12MB LGA775 CPU, 45nm
But one though.. E8400 is almost as good as E8600, just 0.33Ghz less and only half the price. It can hardly be worth paying double for .33Ghz can it? Or does E8600 have any other advantages?
The CPU will of course be used for high overclocking..

Just fired up a new ASUS P5Q-E with Q9400 Core2 Quad CPU (2.66GHz) and there is apparently a problem with the stock Intel heatsink not locking down in one corner.
I'm of a mind just to replace it with something better. Not overclocking...but want to keep it quiet and cool. I've seen some of the heat pipe configurations but wonder if they would really work. Have an old water cooler system but don't want to use that.
I know this is a great place to hear some opinions and recommendations!
