Opinions on how secure this "hard connection" is?
(11 Jun 2009)
Thanks to a virus called Hep A, I had spent alot of time confined to my room and decided to re-do the loop. using some new bitspower fittings
In a moment of jaundice induced delirium, I decided to try to "hard mount" the D5 to the TC rad using rotary extenders and 90/45 degrees fittings. It turned out quite alright and I had the idea of trying to reduce tubing clutter on the mobo as well.
This was the result:
I'm quite happy with being able to twist those short little tubings onto the barbs but...

Leavers - think about keeping your bank account
(27 May 2009)
If there is no ongoing cost,
if you have a friend who you can trust with your hanko,
if there is a chance you may return, and/or
you now have a 'connection' with a local
- it may be an idea to keep your bank account open with a small amount of money in it.
I closed mine before leaving and have never been able to re-open one since as I have never re-established permanent residence there. I have some loose business links and visit regularly and it would be hell of a lot easier if I just had my own...

Internet Connection Problem - Cuts out frequently
(10 Jun 2009)
Today, 10:03 AM Just moved into a new place in Burlington, VT. Connection is cable via Comcast, the modem is an old(er) Scientific Atlanta model, the wireless router is a Netgear MR814v2. The account is not in my name, which makes this somewhat more difficult to resolve, as I have to go through someone else to get in touch with Comcast.
Basically, the internet connection will cut out every 30 seconds to every minute (or so, it is hard to really pin down the exact timing). You will be trying to l...

Thinking about switching to O2 broadband
(28 Jun 2009)
After suffering with BT broadband for a year and a bit, I have decided that enough is enough, and I'm looking for an ISP that does not traffic shape.
Top of my list is O2 at the moment, however, I don't live in their coverage area, so I'll be using their Home Access product.
Looking at reviews online, it looks like they have some congestion issues as well.
Does anyone have any knowledge of O2 broadband? How would you rate the connection speed at peak periods?
Also, will I be able to use my own R...

Router to router internet connection help
(24 May 2009)
Ok so here's the dilemma:
My internet provider says that i need a direct line of sight to the wireless tower that sends the signal to the modem. That means I have to move the modem 100 metres away from the main router which is in my house. The modem.antenna is going to be in a boat house at the end of my property. The connection is suppose to be 7 Mbps (that's Mega bits). I want to get as much bandwidth from this as possible.
I'm thinking about a wireless solution. I currently have a Linksys dra...

Wireless connection mysteriously stopped working!
(10 May 2009)
I set up an old PC with Xandros 4.5 and a Rosewill wireless network card (Ralink chipset) for an indigent family. Their neighbor agreed to let them piggy-back off their wireless router. Had it all working. Xandros 4.5 automagically detected and configured the wireless card with the proper driver, entered the WEP key, and connected to the internet - a breeze!
Then after two weeks, I got a call that they could no longer connect to the internet. I went over, went through control center and network...
