What do we think about Cedric Benson? (lengthy orig post fixed)
(21 May 2009)
Quote: I mean he looked really good last year. The staff seemed to believe in his "resurrection" by not drafting a RB save some headcase in the 7th round out of Abilene Christian"? They drafted nothing but help for Benson by spending their early picks on OL/C/TE, and improving their defense (which usually only helps running backs, especially the rb1's). Yet he is Ranked 31 in redraft and 42 dynasty? He's still relatively young, and if his head is right immensely talented? Am I missing something?...

I'm playing a fantasy league and I grabbed Gore in the first round, about two picks above a 49'ers fan who was desperate to get him. seven rounds later he offers me this trade
I give Frank Gore, Marion Barber
He gives Clinton Portis, Steve Smith
I counter proposed with
Frank Gore, Jerricho Cotchery
Clinton Portis, Steve Smith
but he declined.
He then Counter proposed with the same, as the first time, except he would also give me his eigth round pick
Here are our teams so far

Reader Mail: Returning to Sender
Robert Shields
Last weeks column about the play in the Red-White football game being less than stellar brought a lot of heat to my mailbox, so I am going to share my responses to some of them with you.
Reader comment: Of course the first-team offense tore it up early because they were going against the second-string defense.
My response: Thanks for the feedback. Depth has always been a problem the last few years on defense for the Hogs. It is what separa...

Revising the Draft: 2004 to Present
(26 Jun 2009)
the recent Michael Huff chatter had me thinking about what our roster would have looked like had we picked who we should have picked from 2006 to present. the rule that i stuck with was that the replacement player had to be within 3 picks of our draft position. this excluded swapping out a player just for a stud. i tried to as objective as possible and took into the consideration what was thought of the player and pick when they were chosen.
2004 (#2)
who we picked: LT Robert Gallery
who we shou...

Watch out for the...Bengals?!
There are always several surprise teams in the NFL. Obviously, we had the Dolphins and Falcons shocking the world last year by making the playoffs after disastrous 2007 campaigns. During Reggie Bushs rookie year in New Orleans, the Saints went from the abyss of their Hurricane Katrina season to one game away from the Super Bowl.
In other words, weve seen some real strange things happen lately. With that in mind as Im doing my initial handicapping for the 2009 NFL...

This is a mock draft by Scouts Inc written sometime around June of last year (it was NOT insider for the record, I don't have insider) for this months draft. When I read it I was skeptical and decided I would save it to my c...

who opened last season as a third-string quarterback, finished with more fantasy points than Brett Favre and Ben Roethlisberger. Pierre Thomas, also a reserve player to open 2008, outscored one-time superstars Larry Johnson and Joseph Addai. Antonio Bryant didn't play a single snap at the pro level in 2007, but he still finished as a better option than Terrell Owens and Randy Moss.
Yes, the NFL can be unpredictable to say the very least.

Getting to Know "Al Davis" The Oakland Raiders at aGlance - Mile High Report
I am also new to analysis of any other team than the Broncos, especially not analysis of the bitter rival Oakland Raiders.
Disco_Stu on MHR summed up the Raiders of season as follows:
They demonstrated confidence in last years WR signings by drafting a completely UN-polished track star with the #7 pick.
They demonstrated confidence in their Quarterback of the Future by signing Jeff Garcia.
They demonstrated confidenc...

Arkansas Recruiting: In State Kids Carry the Hogs
(25 Apr 2009)
I have done a bit of research today on the Arkansas football program and the kids we sign in state. Below I have come up with the 10 most productive players from the last 5 recruiting classes (04-08). Before anyone says the top 10 is opinionated, please feel free to go and check them out on rivals, I think 90% of you will agree with what I have deemed the top 10, some classes were hard to even pull 10 guys that have been really productive for the Hogs (see Williams and Mustain on 06 list). Here...
