1. Long-term memorization techniques to become an expert in the field?   (14 May 2009)
I'm familiar with some mnemonic/memorization techniques for about a year. I think that this techniques can give a developer significant benefit or even make you an expert in the field. If you are familiar with this techniques, you know that there are mnemonic techniques for long-term memorizing . We often read lots of books, and there are many concepts which you don't remember because they won't appear often in your daily coding-life. So, you need to learn it again and again, months and years la...

2. Taken for granted...techniques for new riders.   (26 May 2009)
I was out riding the Komodo at the Mansion today (which really RAWKED my world) and noticed a few things that I take for granted b/c I've been riding for a while...that a nooblet may not even think about. Most of this spawns from riding behind a noob or non-skilled hack that just makes me cringe when I watch them pick a line or treat their bike like a personal Sherman Tank and plow through something w/o finesse. 1. When I cross a root, fencepost/water-bar, or rock that crosses the trail when it'...

4. What are some of the other old / researched techniques that are not in the...   (15 Jun 2009)
With the recent announcement of Google Wave I started looking into how it worked, I then found that work and research on Real-time Collaborative Editing Systems has been around for some time (the first work was done in 1989). Google "introduced" MapReduce however that had been around for some time in functional programming as well. Are there any other techniques / interesting ideas that have been around for a while but the technology isn't there to support it yet? or it has only recently moved i...

5. Macro Lens vs Lens Reversal and other Techniques:   (09 May 2009)
A while ago I asked a question about the use of Macro lens ( http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1034&message=31163017 ). I now have another question. I researched the Nikkor 105, Sigma 105 and 150, and the Tamron 90 and it appears that in all cases when it comes to taking Macro pictures (1:1 or greater) one has to resort to manual focus. With the Nikkor 105 the VR is also quite useless for Macro. If this research is correct (my research is based on the opinions of people on various...

6. Recording Techniques.... Any Cool stuff?   (03 May 2009)
Hey everyone, So my band and I are finishing up recording and it sounds great but it seems it is just lacking something. That something special, cool, weird, to put it over the edge and have it sound really cool. The little un-noticable things that without would make the recording sound dull. so i was wondering does anyone have any cool things they do to the different instruments, vocals, etc.... or does anyone know of any forums or links that talk about things you would never even think about....

9. Useful and unuseful real life development techniques.   (08 Jun 2009)
I work on a medium/large company that follows what I think are some good practices for development, maybe not the best ones but good enough. We've some development resource that get implemented on the basis of "do, test, if it useful the use, else throw away". I've found that most of the so called best practices are, sometimes, ideally great but unfeasible or even harmful in real life. For example, we use to have a dotproject website for our team. The idea was to track tasks, update progress and...
