California Supreme Court Upholds Gay Marriage Ban
(26 May 2009)
This should go to show that claims about rampant judicial activism in one of the most liberal states is exaggerated....
A 6-1 decision by a court of liberals entirely upheld the constitutional amendment process... even though the issue at hand completely goes against mainstream liberal thought.

The 6-1 decision written by Chief Justice Ron George rejected an argument by gay rights activists that the ban revised the California Constitution's e...

How are gay marriages in Iowa recognized in California?
Can two men marry in California today? Tomorrow?
I rest my case.
If you have to ask "why not?" you aren't sure of your ground.

California Supreme Court Decision Day on Tuesday
(22 May 2009)
I was originally gonna post this in the gay marriage thread with all of my other musings on the subject but I realize that this isn't about marriage. It's about whether a small majority of voters can remove a constitutional right of any minority group(and if doing so constitutes a revision rather than an amendment of the California Constitution).
Anyway, it's four days away, so anyone wanna predict what'll happen?
Right now I'm actually about 60-40 that they'll overturn this. Chief Justic George...

California Supreme Court Upholds Ban on Same-Sex Marriage
By JOHN SCHWARTZ
The California Supreme Court upheld a ban on same-sex marriage today, ratifying a decision made by voters last year that runs counter to a growing trend of states allowing the practice.
The decision, however, preserves the 18,000 marriages performed between the court’s decision last May that same-sex marriage was lawful and the passage by voters in November of Proposition 8...
