1. Huh? no one is using Blu-Ray burners yet? Well, I want to!   (07 Jun 2009)
Can it be done in Ubuntu? (I want facts not opinions.) What do I need to do to get an internal or external Blu-Ray burner to play and record discs in Ubuntu? Thank you!

2. Blu-Ray Player Help   (06 Jun 2009)
I've been thinking about buying a blu-ray player but I want one that I can play region 1 blu-ray discs on. I've had a look on amazon and this one seems like a good player but is there a way I can play region 1 discs on it? http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-BDPS350...4313946&sr=1-4

4. joerod Blu ray Player Comparison Ratings Summer 2009   (30 Jun 2009)
My Summer 2009 Blu ray comparison report is finally finished. Before anyone gets upset please keep in mind these are only my personal views and opinions. Everyone's set ups are different and everyone's results may vary. I judged the players on pic Q for Blu ray and SD dvd. I also based sound Q on analog and HDMI. Other criteria considered was build Q, features (including tweaking with picture adjustments) and the overall package. I own duplicate copies of a few titles (Blu ray & SD dvds) so swit...

5. Master List of our "Loungers" Blu-Ray Concerts, Musicals and Music related...   (16 May 2009)
I thought it would be interesting and useful to see what everyone has in their collection that relates to music. The category would include concerts, movies about music or famous musical artists, and special interest releases that include music in addition to the documentary or travel subject. Since this is my primary collection interest you'll find I have much of what is out there right now in this category, especially the special interest releases. If it's on my list it means it's good, I don'...

6. Contemplating a media player/streamer...is a Blu-Ray mega-changer a better...   (03 Jun 2009)
OK, I'm sure I'll get just the answer I expect in the "media player" area, but i'll give this a go anyway. I like collecting movies. Now, with Blu-Ray, I have moved on to those- of course, at a huge premium for space. I want the full movies, no compression (beyond the BD source, anyway ). That said, it appears the "average" film's about 30 GIG's. For the sake of argument call it 30 movies per TB- prolly safe anyways, as I'll likely want the majority of the bonus content. OK, so at 100 BD's, that...

7. Blu-ray Is Killing Itself   (16 May 2009)
I love a good high-def movie, and Blu-ray players are sweet. Only they're so feature rich, the discs themselves are an afterthought—DOA or relegated to a niche format reserved for the finest films. Oh, come on—you can't tell me you don't see where this is going. Even though the format has grown 72% in the last quarter, every Blu-ray player we choose to review has an abundance of features that have nothing to do with Blu-ray. In fact, they all have to do with delivering movies in a different way,...

8. Blu-Ray players and LFE level?   (22 Apr 2009)
It seems like alot of Blu-Ray players have the low LFE level issue. Why is that? I have had the Sony DBP-S350 since last August. I used to own a Yamaha RX-V659 receiver (non HD audio) and it was fine. Since upgrading to a RX-V3900 I noticed I have to have the gain on the receiver at about +3.5 db and on the sub at the 12:00 position as opposed to 0 db and 10:00 on my old receiver (using my Radio Shack SPL meter). Even then I notice the bass is weaker than before. This is not noticable with regul...

10. Disney BD-Live: Comments and Opinions   (09 Jun 2009)
I know that Disney BD-Live isn't exactly new, having been around since October 2008, but I have only recently been able to access these features and I am curious what everybody else who has used it thinks. So far, Disney Blu-Ray Discs that have BD-Live features are: Sleeping Beauty Tinker Bell Wall-E The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian Cheetah Girls: One World Space Buddies High School Musical 3: Senior Year Beverly Hills Chihuahua Pinocchio Bolt Bedtime Stories A Bug's Life I've been testi...
