Here's the scoop, from a relative newcomer. Consider this a guide, if you so desire.
1. The inside jokes are not some code to keep anyone out. Some people have been here for years and they will make reference to teh funny that happened during internets passed. Also, they're usually not that funny so you're not missing out on anything. Example: zomfg Olive Garden.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately...inspiration. Sometimes you get
inspiration from hearing a song someone else has done on the radio or just by
browsing the internets and coming across something by chance and it makes you
go, 'that gives me an idea!' Sometimes you get inspiration by watching a
film or reading a book or playing a game that has an atmosphere or story that
you think would be great grounds for writing with that story in mind.
