New Merkur versus Vintage Gillette
(20 May 2009)
I see that a lot of blokes are using vintage razors. The Gillette razors from the 50s and 60s seem to be preferred. Is there any advantage to these over the new razors from Merkur, or is it just price? I bought a new 33c, but will look for a vintage Gillette if they offer an appreciably better shave. Your opinions?

collecting older Gillette DE razors
(18 May 2009)
Recently I returned to the ranks of Wet Shaving after nearly 50yrs of using Gillette Trac II,Atras, Mach 3, and more recently Fusion, etc.
Now I know what a good shave is going back to a DE razor. I presently am using a 38C and a Progress both by Merkur.
The only negative thing with the switch back is thinking about all the Gillette razors which I either threw out or lost during the many moves I went through.
I am not a serious razor collector but from a nostalgia point of view I would like to r...

Gillette Super Stainless
(16 May 2009)
About 6 years ago i was shopping for some mach3 blades and stumbled upon a made in england, TTO gillette at a local pharmacy here in Montreal. It has no code, it only has the gilette diamond logo, "made in England", a black plastic hand, and the twist mechanism is right under the head before the handle starts.
So i thought to myself: "Cool! i'd love to start shaving the way my Grandpa shaved!" (I remember kissing grandpa and noticing how smooth his face always was)
Anyway, these were the only do...

thinking about switching but confused
(08 May 2009)
Ok I stumbled on this site tonight and found it very interesting. To begin I am a college student and this year I decided to grow a beard and have not really shaved in about 5 months. I am over the beard and am going back to shaving my current method is just Gillette fusion power with some shaving cream. I have no blades left and they cost $25 per 8. I think this is insane so I googled cheapers ways to shave and I found the "safety razor". This brought me to this site and I have some questions....

Thinking about shaving off my gottee...
(29 Jun 2009)
I have worn a Gottee for about fifteen years now. I shave it off every couple of years for about a week or so, and regret it every time. Either Im just not used to how I look without it, or I actually do look better with it.
I keep my gottee trimmed at all times. I usually trim it two to three times per week to keep it clean looking.
If i shave it should i just attack it with an open comb gillette new? or should i trim it down even shorter then shave it?
Has anybody else here gone form having ha...

Opinions on open comb razors?
(13 May 2009)
I usually use a 39c slant, but I've been curious about open comb razors. I've got a Gillette new, and an old style but I've never used them. Any opinions on how well the open comb razors work and what the difference is?

Is this normal for a Gold Gillette executive?
(28 May 2009)
Saw a posting for a Gillette Executive razor and the seller claims that "I do want to note that when opened, the end cap on one side looks very crooked (see picture), but straightens back out when closed." Seller makes it sound like this is normal and will shave ok. What's your opinion? Also, if not "normal" is it fixable? If fixable, how is it fixed?
Thanks,

Evil Gillette or "how a relatively respectable professor was fooled by "science...
(08 May 2009)
Hi all,
I am a relatively new member here, been looking for a while since I discovered wet shaving again!
Last night I was watching the good old BBC when a piece on razor blades came up. In the BBC2 show with Professor Regan she attempts to look behind the claims made by advertising execs and find the true science behind them.
She visited Gillette's laboratory and was shown some close up video of someone's skin and the hairs sticking out of it! The man then proceeded to show a multiblade razor p...
