Apple Predictions (Present to Future+)
(17 Apr 2009)
Hi everyone, this is my first post. (Newbie, stop poking me! lol)
To just say plain a simple, Apple Inc. is like my first child, lol. I love everything about them, can get a little mean and angry at them, but all in all, will always love them. And being a fellow industrial designer, I can greatly appreciate alot of the things they are doing.
So this is a topic that my dad and I constantly debate about for fun when there's nothing else to talk about or we hear an exciting blab about Apple in the...

If you're thinking about buying an iPhone, stop!
(10 Jun 2009)
So, you've had a look at the iPhone, and you're thinking to yourself, "This might be a good phone to choose." You're planning to buy it. Stop. With your purchase of the iPhone, you're committing yourself to a product decidedly inferior in the smartphone market, one with glaring design mistakes.
Let's start with the hardware. With the iPhone, you get a 412MHz ARM11 processor, 128MB of RAM and either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. Apart from the internal storage, this is only roughly comparable...

Marketwatch: The Death of Widow and Orphan Stocks

When the long run comes up short
Commentary: GM's demise spells the end of the 'widow-and-orphan' stock
By Chuck Jaffe, MarketWatch
BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- With General Motors in bankruptcy court, trading on the Pink Sheets and out of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, I couldn't help but think this week of one of my college roommates at Michigan.
He was the son of an autoworker, who hoped to follow his father and grandf...

XBMC (on xbox) user? What are you replacing it with?
(16 Apr 2009)
I really like XBMC, but the combination of new LCD TV, far more HD content to watch and moving house (so TV/xbox are nowhere near the router any more so I'd need some sort of wireless bridge) have me thinking about other options. Would appreciate hearing what other people are doing, and if there's an option I've missed:
- Apple TV (£199) - capable of running XBMC alongside it's own software, small, quiet, wifi integrated, would be up to doing iTunes video content and iPhoto (which we all use) as...

Quote: : "We developed brand new, absolutely incredible technology for the PlayStation 3 (PS3), but the cost was high. We've adopted a slightly different approach now, and are evolving the PS3 into a platform for web services , Stringer told Nikkei Electronics Asia.

Redirects and Firefox Crashes and Restarting the Computer with Windows Defender...
(25 May 2009)
So my previous thread got archived. Here's what I posted in it:
Quote: : I forgot to mention two things:
Now that I think about it, I haven't seen TeaTimer pop up in a long time (since before the symptoms started, easily).
This all started recently after accessing some website through Google search and then having my computer freeze. After a while it told me that Spybot had prevented virtumonde from being installed. Panicking (what if it had missed a bit?!), I scanned with MalwareBytes, then Spy...

Equipment Lust
(12 May 2009)
by Ellen Anon in Apple Aperture
Today Im going to take a step back and share some thoughts about the process of our art rather than specific techniques. Photography attracts a lot of people who love gear (including me). Impassioned discussions of which is better, and suggestions for what someone should buy are common. Many folks eagerly search the web for hints of the next great product and are anxious to be the first to get the latest/greatest. Lively discussions follow as to whats best - the...

China backs down from required web filter
(01 Jul 2009)
Quote: : BEIJING (AP) In a rare reversal, China's government gave in to domestic and international pressure and backed down Tuesday from a rule that would have required personal computers sold in the country to have Internet-filtering software.
Just hours before the rule was to have taken effect, the government said it would postpone the requirement for the "Green Dam" software. The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology said it made the decision partly because some PC markets were ha...
