Thinking about buying a Kimber Pro Covert..opinions wanted.
(09 Jun 2009)
Hello,
I have recently stumbled upon a hefty real estate commission, and I think I want to treat myself to a new pistol..you know, as a reward to myself I'm liking the Pro Covert II and think it might be the one.
First, I know there are plenty of 1911 options out there and some might feel that for a "bit more" I can "upgrade" to a Wilson, Baer, Ed Brown, etc. I don't really want to go this route. People say, "Once you get a (insert high-end name here) you will see the difference in quality." I d...

Map Idea. Tell me what you think about it
(09 Apr 2009)
For lack of a better name, I am calling this map "Barge"
Each team starts on a separate torture barges. In between these torture barges lies a stationary Barge that will serve as the primary battleground for the match. The two starting barges will begin parallel to each other and they will move toward the stationary barge. The Starting Barges will have the following weapons: Sniper/Torque, Frags/Inks, Boltok (Maybe a mounted Troika as well). The first 20 seconds of the match will consist of gath...

[Other] Editorial: Thinking about Total Battlefield
(08 Apr 2009)
Five months ago, Spawndemon put his arm around my shoulders, pointed towards Total Battlefield, and said "Someday this will all be yours. Well, actually it's yours now. Have fun; try not to break anything." As I looked deep into his eyes, I could see that they had been jaded by the responsibility of running Total Battlefield in all its iterations for all these years. I swore to myself that I would carry on the legacy of the great men who served this post before me.
I was one of the nearly 1,000...

"70's style serve"?
(07 Jun 2009)
We all know the basic stances for the tennis serve, either together like a roddick serve or apart like a federer style serve. I remember watching a video on FYB about an "old school" type of serve where your feet are parallel to the baseline. I believe they called it a "70's style serve". What do you guys think about this? I have been using this serve for the past week or so and i found that it gives me much more hip twisting motion.

American Jews should serve in Israeli Army
(29 May 2009)
I see it as part of my function to document instances of dual loyalty--in which American Jews are called upon to show loyalty to Israel. These appeals are problematic: 1, they define Jewish identity in a narrow and dubious way, as loyalty to a foreign country, and 2, more importantly, they have helped to confuse Americans, especially many Jews in politics and journalism, to think that our national interest is the same as Israel's.
These appeals are rarely explicit--people know it's not kosher. B...

Serve consistency
(16 Apr 2009)
While serving, whats the main thing you think about which helps you with consistency?
The problem i have is that my serve mechanics arent grooved to a point where everything works without thinking about it. So what ends up happening is i focus on ball toss for example, then notice i stop doing something else, like not jumping into the serve enough etc etc..
what helps you to get things working on your serve?

Returning serve during the warm-up
(21 Apr 2009)
The post below (is it ok to hit back a fault) got me thinking about a topic that's probably better for a separate thread. Is it ok to practice returning serve during the warm-up? I'm not talking about blocking back the ball when you're finished serving and your opponent wants to take a few more, I'm talking about trying to get grooved on your return.
In the code, I think it specifies that practice serves should only be returned to get the ball back the server, don't really remember, though.

Kids serve technique
(10 May 2009)
We were looking at kids playing a tournament yesterday and started talking about serve technique. I shot some pictures of them serving and _I_ have some ideas on what should be changed/improved for some of them, but I'd like to have your opinions too... Soo. Here's the pictures:
http://www.grebo.net/~peter/images/2...-09/serve.html
Btw, the kids ages are: Emma 11, Edvina 13, Marco 9, Wilma 10, Oscar 12.
(I know it's hard to discuss their whole technique just out of one still picture but anyway).

Is this serve motion legal?
(08 Jun 2009)
Ever since I've started videoing myself I've been trying to figure out a way to get myself into a more traditional serve motion. I was thinking about a way to do this last night and this afternoon I decided to give a try to what I had thought out.
The first four serves are my "regular" serves. The last four use the new footwork. It's odd and ugly but it does get me close to a platform stance. The most important part for me at this moment is that it makes the platform stance feel at ease with me....
