D300 sharpening:
(07 Apr 2009)
I'd like to get your opinions or advice about in camera sharpenning and post production sharpening with Capture NX. i'm not very happy with the D300s in camera sharpening, what setting should i have this at? For PP work i am currently only using Capture NX. What are ideal settings for Intensity, Radius & Threshold in NX Unsharp mask. What about High pass?
appreciate your comments
thanks

Your opinion please....
(08 Apr 2009)
As we're in SOC assignment, I was thinking about the way you experimented photographers use to process your raws. As you know I'm a beginer, and selftaught, so I have been developing my own ways to do it, and sometimes I'm not sure about what I'm doing. I mean, are allowed processings as this one?. Or are them ethically incorrect, as I am changing a part of the BG? Wich are the usual boundaries?
This one taken this morning and edited with capture NX 1.3

B&W; CC Welcomed:
(06 Apr 2009)

Went out with my new D60 over the weekend. I converted to B&W in CaptureNX, but I believe I could tweak this a little better. I did some adjustments to the brightness, but I think that was about it. How would you change this to make it more appealing? Would you do anything?
I'm working on coming up with a good workflow, using Capture NX, to get the best b&w adjustments that I can. There's something about b&w that has always appealed to me.
First posted pic on this site btw.
Thanks

This was a photo that I had taken while out storm chasing today. I couldn't decide whether if I liked the placement of the fence or not. I decided to process it anyway and I would love to hear what you think about the composition, exposure, ect...

Adobe Photoshop Elements users / non-users experience please.:
(25 May 2009)
Thinking of changing to Adobe Photoshop Elements on my Mac and would value opinions from enyone with (real) experience of it.
I've installed the trial to see how it goes, but just in case I'm not exhaustive enough in my trial and miss out trying things, it would be useful to also have some opinions from anyone who has had problems. I don't want to find out in a few months, "b***ger, it doesn't do x or y"
However, what would be REALLY useful would be, rather than a general "elements is too crude"...

The switch to Nikon
March, 2009
"The cover image doesn't look in focus."
My decision to switch camera systems from Canon to Nikon was cemented when I heard those words from an art director. It was a portrait shoot - simple, four light shoot, with an exposure of 1/250th at f6.3 at 250 ASA. Problem was, I was shooting with a 1D Mark III, Canon's flagship camera. Initially I thought all the AF issues were blown out of proportion. I had one of the first Mark III cameras i...

Gear matters?
(28 Jun 2009)
This is an image of "El Teide" (height 3,7 km, and about 90 km far, in Tenerife) taken from my island's shoreline (Gran Canaria) about a year ago. I used what I had at that moment, a nikon d40, a nikkor 55-200 VR. Then I cropped to about a 30% of the original image and edited with capture nx. I shoted jpg, and handheld. So the final result is a very little file, I will never print.
If I could reshot this again, with my D300 + nikkor 80-400 VR + tripod, I think I should get a much better result....
