1. Decemberists Inspired Shadow Box   (03 May 2009)
I finished this the other day. I sortof like it. It's inspired by the new Decemberists album, The Hazards of Love. In short, this guy killed his kids and then their ghosts come back to get him. The song they sing is sortof haunting, and I couldn't stop thinking about it, so I made this! It's about 4x6 in size. It's a shadowbox frame I got at Goodwill for about 1.99. I painted the inside white, cut the guy out of white cardstock and the ghosts out of tissue paper and shone a light through it and...

3. Sonic Bids and the "opportunities" they send you   (21 May 2009)
Hey all, So I joined Sonic Bids for a free 30 day membership...almost every day they send stuff like this...usually there is a $2-$25 fee to submit a song to any of these things. This one is about magazines, but they have festivals, promoters, etc. I have only tried ONE, and it was a gig a Northwestern University, not far from my home...I haven't heard anything, but it was only $2 to submit... I dunno, what does anyone think about this stuff. With my website being done now, I am trying to branch...

4. The Song Claim Thread   (21 Apr 2009)
Latest Announcement When claiming a song by a band that has a name beggining with 'The' please put the 'The' after the actual band name (eg. Prodigy, The) this is just to avoid the letter T becoming too cluttered. I have reduced the amount of posts that you require in order to make a claim, I have similarly reduced the amount of claims one member is allowed to have; I may think about changing these rules at a later date. So, what is the song claim thread? Basically you can claim any song by any...

5. lets just discuss music...   (12 Jun 2009)
I'm listening to 'Future Crayon' by Broadcast or 'dream pop/electronica' as wiki calls it, no where near as good as Tender Buttons in my opinion. How does HaHa Sound rate? That new Decemberists is wayyyy to long, half the tracks are unidentifyiable from each other, is it really necessary to have the last three tracks? 'The Wanting Comes in Waves (Repaid)' is fucking dope though (if dope could ever be used as an adjective in conjunction with the band, The Decemberists). So is 'The Rakes Song'. 'T...

7. Best albums of the first half of 2009   (09 Jun 2009)
[Disclaimer: Please make sure your posts have content. These threads tend to lead to probations because people just post simple lists] Since we are almost halfway through what I consider to be a really solid year of new music, I thought it would be nice to see what other people have been listening to so far in 2009. I've got 10 here in no real order because I've listened to a ton of poo poo this year: Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion : Huge duh here. I love AC and this album just t...

8. Is 'indie' the new prog?   (29 Apr 2009)
I ran across a review of Decemberists: The Crane Wife over at Dutch Progressive Rock Page and picked up on a few blurbs that I found interesting. Its a rather long review that reads more like an essay, with a preface that includes a justification of why an 'indie' act is being reviewed for that website. Here's something that I think is all too true of many modern prog acts, though only recently (there are exceptions IMO). My attraction to “Indie Rock” (and here I am referencing such artists as T...
