C&C PHB 4th printing -- opinions?
(22 Apr 2009)
Apparently the good guys at TLG have just come out with a fourth printing of the PHB. It has a new cover (it looks okay, but I think that I liked the old one better). It also includes -- for the first time -- some minor rules changes to some of the C&C classes, namely, the barbarian, illusionist (more spells), and monk.
(For more info go here .)
Sadly, TLG's issues with the English language continue:
Quote: : The 4th Printing
This is our fourth printing and represents the first real substantive...

question about printing and word automation
(27 Jun 2009)
I am giving the user the option to print search results from the database associated with the program I am developing. The data is a set of several hundred names and addresses.
I am thinking about using word automation to create the report, and then pop up a print dialog to allow the user to print it. This brings up 2 questions in my mind.
1) after creating the report using the word api, how do I bring up a print dialog?
2) If I create an install program and install the program on a computer tha...

Reformation and the Printing Press
(11 Jun 2009)
I'm currently reading a book on the Reformation. Anyway, the author makes the point that the Reformation had almost as much to do with the advent of the printing press as it did with Luther. In other words, once the printing press came into use in Europe a Reformation was inevitable due to the ability for everyone now to own a Bible and the ease of printing tracts and books.
Seems to make some sense. What do you think about that?

Thinking about migrating to Ubuntu, a few questions
(25 Apr 2009)
I've played with Ubuntu and other UNIX variants on a number of occasions over the years, so I'm not a complete newbie, but I have a few questions as I am considering altering the setup of my primary PC to have Ubuntu as my primary OS.
1) Should a 19 or 20GB partition be enough for Ubuntu? I have a separate partition that I will keep my data on, FAT32 most likely (unless Ubuntu can reliably write to NTFS now) as I will still have Win2k as a backup and games OS.
I have three partitions on my 400GB...

Printing in RGB
(29 Apr 2009)
Posted this in the lettering forum a few days back. Still looking for an answer.
Quote: : Thinking about getting Kablam to print up some portfolios to hand out to clients and at cons. My question is how I go about prepressing since they do all their work in RGB. Will converting my trapped CMYK files to RGB screw anything up; in particular the trappings? Should I go back and tweak my blacks for the conversion?
Does anyone have any insight/advice to getting the best results with them? I've never p...

Printing off php generated reports
(13 Jun 2009)
Hi guys,

Is it right to invades Michael Jacksons Privacy printing photo's of him dieing...
(03 Jul 2009)
I have just seen an advertisement in the paper for "OK" Magazine and on the front cover is a picture of Michael Jackson dieing, I was appalled and find this sick. It is wrong for someone to shove a camera or mobile phone in his face, he was on his way to hospital dieing, what a distasteful think to do and how can someone sink so low for money. I think it is disgusting for "OK" magazine to print this photo and probably others inside have they no respect for anybody, they will have paid for this...

Printing Karaoke books-a few questions
(07 May 2009)
Been thinking about printing books for a while.
How many song listings can you get per page and still be readable? two columns
How many pages is your book? How thick is it?
I'm using a Vista computer and I haven't bought a laser printer yet or book software.
I'd like to keep the cost reasonable and I figure if I print my own I can update more often when I buy new discs and print a couple new books as needed-eventually the printer will pay for itself hopefully.
In shopping for printers I noticed...

Thinking about buying a MAC
(23 May 2009)
Seriously, I use it mostly for browsing the internet, some limited (non-online) gaming, and word processing applications. I use it more to run I-tunes than anything else, some printing of photos. Limited running of web-based applications. Taking the cost factor out...

Heavy printing regression in Jaunty: SRU?
(04 Jun 2009)
I had some discussion on IRC whether or not to issue an SRU for Jaunty
on a big problem with printing.
See
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/382379
During the Jaunty release cycle I have switched the pdftops CUPS filter
(filter which turns PDF print job data into PostScript) from using
Poppler to using Ghostscript becuase the Poppler solution did not
support documents which contain pages of different sizes. As the Poppler
developers were not willing to fix this problem, I decided on switching
to G...
