Storage: Pelican vs. Storm
(09 May 2009)
TGIF!
Kind of an off-topic here, but I'm looking at purchasing a couple of cases in the next few days to store my watches in and thought I would post a thread to gather a few opinions from the experts out there! I've narrowed it down to two: Pelican 1200 and Storm IM2050. Both are close in terms of price and dimensions:
Pelican ($34.17): 9.5" x 7.5" x 4.5" (l,w,d)
Storm ($33.00): 9.5" x 7.5" x 4.25"
Will that 1/4" of depth matter much? Has anyone had experience with the Storm case foam? Is it as...

Pelican Down!
(02 Jul 2009)
I am Okish, Beloved bike was DOA
Scrotal Trauma they said!!
I went in Ambulance...cat scan, sonogram on nuts, wrist X-Ray, etc, etc.
I am in pain, wrist, leg, knee, and BALLS.
I racked the tank, no doubt. Do racers wear cups? They do this all the time. Especially in the 500 days.
It sucked.
Tacoma pickup failed to yield at a spur and broadsided me. Me 30-35 him 35ish.
I did the triple Lindy high-side and a splat.
Bike went under the front of truck not unlike getting munched by Pac Man. Sometimes...

Opinion/ Best Price on OE/OEM clutch kits? Luk? Sachs?
(16 Jun 2009)
Like the title says, I'm looking for opinions and buying suggestions on a clutch kit for my 08/2000 built 5spd 330i.
I see that autohauz arizona has a Fichtel-Sachs set at $267
and
rmeuropean.com has a OEM Luk set at $335
pelican is slightly more expensive for OEM Luk at $346 and no free shipping. (tax kills the deal for me too.)
anyone got an opinion????

Guantanamo or Pelican Bay
(23 May 2009)
How does closing Guantanamo and dumping the hardcore cases into a Pelican Bay facility (ie Supermax ) help those prisoners. Compared to a supermax facility, Guantanamo is a country club.
Why would a transfer to single cell, 23 hour lockdown facility cause world opinion to shift in our favor?
I'll bet anything that if any Guantanamo prisoner were given a tour of Pelican Bay and asked, where do you want to be housed?, that none of them would want to leave the Big G.

Who takes their high dollar Sonar/GPS off of their rig for travel?:
(23 Jun 2009)
I do not put my 1197 on my rig until I arrive at the lake to avoid unnecessary vibration damage etc of the unit. I have a 997 coming in as well and I plan to do the same with it. Does anyone else do this? Do you keep your finders in a case like a Pelican case or lay them on the floor etc? I was thinking about getting a Pelican case to hold them while not in the boat. After all, the two units hover around the 5K mark

Home Grown FZ1 Luggage Solution
(28 Jun 2009)
Ever since I bought my 2008 Yamaha FZ1 this year, I've been thinking about luggage options for multi-day trips. I have a couple of small 20 to 25 litre tailbags which I use for day trips, but something larger, lockable, and completely watertight, was what I was after for longer trips.
Thanks to seeing how well my buddy Mike's Pelican case has held up on his bike, one of these world-famous gear cases was the obvious choice for me. While this type of case looks more utilitarian than the slick lugg...

FIshing Boat Q?
(22 Jun 2009)
My girlfriend is getting into fishing with me so I decided to look for a boat that is a little more stable than the canoe so she feels safer, but is still good for those small places I like to go. I looked at the "bass hunter," and another boat "bass raider," by a company called Pelican. The Pelican is cheaper, but I can't tell much difference in the 2 other than padded seats and a few can holders etc... Does anyone own either and if so what do you think about either? Suggestions appreciated...
