Saskatchewan or Calgary?
(08 Jun 2009)
My husband and I are looking at relocating for work-related purposes, and two of the potential locations are Saskatchewan and Calgary. My husband has previously traveled to Toronto for work, but that is our only knowledge of any area within Canada.
Which area, Saskatchewan or Calgary, is more family friendly?
Are rents comparable?
Which area is more expensive -- what would be an acceptable salary to pay for the necessaries?
What are your thoughts on each area?
We've looked at statistics and done...

A Big Edmonton and Calgary Meet Up
(29 May 2009)
So boys and girls
This is still at a planning sort of stage but how about a big meet up?
Mandymoochops has offered her place (bless her), thinking about a Sunday afternoon start.
We could all wear name badges so we know who we all are, only joking.
No dates are set, just testing the water so to speak.
So what do you think, shall we get off these computers and meet each other for real?

How is the Drive from Vancouver to Calgary?
(20 Jun 2009)
Me and my friends were thinking about taking a little roadtrip to Cowtown for the stampede. (An over-rated affaire i know, but i still want to go at least once.)
Plane fair isn't really cheap THIS close to the actual event so I was wondering if any of you had done that drive and how dangerous/amazing it is.
Thanks for the help.
Edit: We would be doing this in one day. So it would have to be the shortest route. While taking two days to do it COULD happen, we all might not be able to get that day...

Places close to Calgary to launch for free
(25 Apr 2009)
Reading a couple of other threads, brings important note to think about. Since this year will be the first with a boat, it would be nice to know where to go to boat for free. Good fishing or not, but close places that are free or close to free with a decent launch would be good. I live 5 miles east of Balzac, so can anyone share some places to launch the boat? I will have to do some testing with it, especially since it doesn't work well and I am going to be tinkering with it.
I would think Ghost...

Tiger from Calgary Zoo 2006
(20 May 2009)
Patrick and Boardlady - thank you for the resize help. Believe it or not I do not have the windows picture manager - somethings are more free down south me thinks!
It is about 3x6 inches on scratch paper - not board yet. still nervous about scratching the board - yikes!
While I am calling this finished I would love advice to be able to use for the next projects! I already figured the nose hairs are not likely going the way they should. I even did a pseudo fix on one of the eyes. That was a bit o...

Group trip to Calgary frag BBQ at Pazil's
(29 Jun 2009)
I'm thinking about organizing a group trip to Calgary for the frag sale/trade and BBQ. It's happening July 25 at 6pm (1800hrs) until whenever we want to leave (maybe 8 or 9pm?). If we go early (like leave @ 0930AM) we can hit the local fish stores. (Pisces, Golds, Red Coral, whatever else you want to see). Food is supplied at the BBQ for supper, although I am sure goodies would not be turned down.
Cost to come would be nominal, just to cover the gas to go, no more than $10 a person. I can take u...

(03 Jun 2009)
i did a bit of browsing previous discussion about random camping, but didn't see any recent discussions.
we are hoping to car camp close to a river, not too far from the city (1.5hr drive), yet still in the mountains or foothills. i've been looking at highway 546 west of turner valley, but haven't been down there to scope it out. seems that some spots of that road that are pretty close to the sheep river.
anyone have any suggestions or opinions? i'd love to hear them.

Your 2009/10 Stanley Cup Champions, Calgary Flames!
(07 Jul 2009)
Do you think it's possible, or am I living in a fantasy world?
Think about it, one of the top coaches/GMs in the league. Best captain + power forward in the league. Top two or three defence in the league. Top 5 goalie in the league. Solid depth down the middle. Plus a good combination of speed, skill, grit, youth, and experience throughout our lineup.
I guess the biggest question mark(s) will be can we score enough? Can we keep the puck out of our net? Also, will we have the team chemistry/dedic...

High Speed Internet NW of Calgary - Telus best option?
(09 May 2009)
At the end of June, we are moving out to an acreage. It is located on Woodland Close, just north of Crowchild and just west of the city, among a million other 2 and 4 acre acreages.
I didnt even think about the lack of Shaw High Speed when we decided to move out of the city. I assumed with housing density as high as it is there, that Shaw would be available. Of course, it is not. I dont know how I am going to go back down in speed from Shaw Extreme ...
Telus' website claims that its High Speed A...
