What duplication detection threshold do you use?
(17 Apr 2009)
We all agree that duplication is evil and should be avoid (Don't Repeat Yourself principle). To ensure that, static analysis code should be used like Simian (Multi Language) or Clone Detective (Visual Studio add-in)
I just read Ayende's post about Kobe where he is saying that :
8.5% of Kobe is copy & pasted code. And that is with the sensitivity dialed high, if we set the threshold to 3, which is what I commonly do, is goes up to 12.5%.
I think that 3 as threshold is very low. In my company we o...

collision detection
(01 Jun 2009)
hi there, I'm trying to find a more efficient way to do collision detection between an ellipsoid and 3d geometry, I've recently implemented the swept sphere approach which gives exact results but it just seems too slow.
I was thinking about implementing something similar to quake where I could use a precalculated collision hull so that I could treat an ellipsoid as a point, which sounds like a good option but I'm not sure how to do this?
Does anyone know of any other good, cheap ways of collidin...

[AS3] Collision Detection + Multiple Classes = Confusion!
(26 May 2009)
My title is fairly self-explanatory. I currently am trying to incorporate collision detection into a Space Invaders clone that I am creating, and I am very frustrated and clueless as to how to make it work... My enemies are generated in separate classes, and then I have a handler class to position and move the enemies around the stage area. My lasers are generated in a separate class, and again the graphics for the laser is a class to itself. From some research I have found that I need to used a...

Does AVG Free 8.5 offer rootkit detection?
(21 Jun 2009)
Hi. I am trying to maximize/optimize my security (and functioning) on my laptop (Dell Dimension M6300 running Windows Pro XP SP3). I have wireless internet connection (used primarily in my house) using an Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection adaptor via router to cable high speed internet.
I am currently using the following security/updating/patching methods:
1. AVG Free 8.5
2. SuperAntiSpyware (Free Edition)
3. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (Free Edition)
4. Spyware Blaster
5. Windows Fir...

Motion Detection
(26 Jun 2009)
Who's excited about it? Personally I'm not sure what to think about it because I'm having trouble seeing how it can be utilized in games not made specially for this software. What are your thoughts?

UW Leak detection..
(06 May 2009)
Ok, in keeping with my alias, I thought I'd toss this out to the DYI crowd..
I've been seeing several threads here lately about difficult to find leaks. I see you can get UV dyes for most any automotive fluid at most FLAPS (even in single/two dose) packs. When I looked at the loan-a-tool programs it appeared that they didn't have the UV light source to complete the diagnosis. Is that true or not? I didn't want to add the suggestion without trying it myself.
Anyhow, (I'm thinking of a low dollar...

(12 Apr 2009)
Great question. I'd love to hear someone address it.
One thing I can say that I'm really pleased by is in his book he stipulates a few experiments to prove him wrong. And his institute is actually releasing working code. They have a demo that does object detection that work from a picture, a drawing, or your webcam. It's not perfect by any means, but I appreciate that they make their work available such that you can actually evaluate what they're doing.

Gracenote and non detected CDs
(17 Apr 2009)
Hi,
I am a brand new user to dbpoweramp and got it because it was recommended by a number of Sonos users. I am using it to make MP3 and FLAC files at the same time and it works great but...
- I wonder why you're not using CDDB/Gracenote as one of the data sources. It is the most reliable I have found and it is even capable of figuring out what CDs are that I burned from the vinyl. (which amazes me)
- I am finding newish CDs (a few months old) that don't get identified at all by the *four* data s...

Thermal Infrared Imaging solutions can detect very subtle differences in temperature as low as .1 degree. This technology can reveal unusual heat patterns in a residential or commercial structure that may be indicative of an illicit Marijuana manufacturing facility. This equipment is available to the general public but is pric...
